See, this is where I have a problem with innate skills not being teachable. Just because someone grew up knowing how to do something doesn't mean that they completely fail as a teacher -- quite the opposite, usually. Although you want a native translator interpreting for you, you want your foreign language teacher to be from that country.

I THINK the reasoning is they don't want us sprites going around teaching people faerie fire and faerie fog.

But otherwise, I agree.

And that's.... bad.

Who cares if you can teach endurance, faerie fire, faerie fog, etc.? Honestly, that should be an addition, not a detraction to your character race choice.

I thought you could only teach it to people that learn it anyway. So, really, what is the reasoning behind not letting deep elves teach deep tongue?

The restriction makes more sense for truly innate abilities. Griffons naturally have endurance as part of their athletic ability. For them, it's not really a skill they could teach someone. Likewise, faeries and deep-elves probably have ways of generating faerie fire that others can't use.

I agree that case-by-case decisions would be better than a fixed rule, but that sounds like work. If we're going to have a fixed rule, I think we have the right one.

And that said..

I don't really think we should have a fixed rule. I think deep tongue is the only glaring exception to the otherwise sound policy of no-teach innate skills. So, I don't think it's too much to ask to fix that one, tiny little detail.

On the topic of griffon innate skills, self-defense is another they get that I've always thought they *should* be able to teach. After all, it was taught to them according to the helpfile on griffons.
