I have a quesiton along the lines of this, if i stun a NPC and wait untill he attacks me again will I get more xp?

I remember reading that there is a cap on the XP you can get per NPC so that you can't just keep stunning/healing the same one. It might work one or two or three times, but I think it would be easy enough to experiment with.

Though if you fight the existing Collegium NPCs to the stun, you'll get all the experience you want, but no money. The reward script that "spirits them away to the healers" fires when the NPC dies, and gives the reward money to the character delivering the final blow.

Those instances where the script doesn't pay up, the mortally wounded NPC died of its wounds before you could administer the killing blow. The script still fires and spirits the NPC away, but it doesn't know who to give the money to because the NPC died of it's own accord.

I've noticed this happens a lot more frequently these days, especially with the low-damage dealing non-warrior classes.

If it had been an unscripted NPC in a similar position, the NPC would still have died before you could've hit it, and auto loot / auto gold would have failed to fire automatically instead. Of course, in such instances you could just take the money from the corpse instead.

The obvious solution, if a solution is needed, is to fix the script concerned so that it drops the coin on the ground. Then you end up having to pick up your coins after every victory, which is ineligent and really annoys me when it happens elsewhere (certain sewer NPCs disintergrating into a shower of sparks when you kill them, for example!)

But I don't think it's frequent enough for the small loss of coin to make it worth-while tinkering.

I did as much as I could there. I think its about as good as it gets without a major renovation.

Why do you need mode stun to RP not killing anyone when the scripts in the area already make it so they don't die?

You don't. And the boss trainer NPC tells you to fight to the kill just to make a point of it.

I believe Dulrik was making a different, though related point, that he'd previously stripped experience from the killing blow so that (amongst other changes, especially to the tracking code I suspect) you could make as much experience from levelling on mode stun as you could on mode kill.

In any case, even without the kill-triggered scripts on the levelling NPCs, you still wouldn't get any experience from the killing blow, even if it were normally given, because the NPC dies from its wounds before you can strike it again. The only thing that you're loosing out on are the couple of coins you could've otherwise looted from the corpse had your victim not been spirited away.

That said, I've never found the Collegium to be a cash-poor experience, so whatever its other faults, I think this is immaterial.

Can I just vote for a COMPLETE overhaul of that school?

I know in making a character that started there I thought perhaps my concept would fit into Taslamaran ideals but be the more extreme side. Nothing is as extreme as what the NPCs are saying. It is downright hateful and reminds me of extreme Hammerness. Not a drop of niceness in half the things they say if you actually listen to it.

And the NPCs are hard to kill when you aren't a warrior class. The exp bites. It is hard to gather coin (so either Nerina's needs to be cut back or everyone else's bumped) and better gear added in. The school should also be closer to the city. Unless with its new location the point is cheap labor by forcing them to work next door.

I always liked the old Taslamar training place with all the practice dummies.

-edit-

And that was actually IN the city. If it wasn't in the city, I probably wouldn't be still playing here. I'd have quit already, because I absolutely had no idea what was going on.

Jennbo's right. The sheer simplicity of that training area was the best thing ever.

*sigh* If only there was a way to roll back all (yes, including all the new bs armor and crap) like 2-4 years I would come back and no [REDACTED] play that full time again instead of WoW.

I have to admit, when I first tried out SK it had the practice dummies... then when I came back in March '06 and they had been replaced with people to kill (having rolled a pallie) I thought "how would a pallie reconcile the fact he is killing people as part of his training?" - Then I left the school and thought wtf, the city gone? Thank god the old-grey wolf / fadelions / etc werent on the road that day. Mind you, it went dark and being human I was then lost in the wildneness and couldn't light a torch ... why on earth did I stay? Oh the good old days 8)

I find it ironic this thread is still being discussed today. If you don't know why I find it ironic and want to know why... well maybe you will tomorrow.
