If it takes longer than 5 seconds to figure out what is going on in the banner, you're just wasting your time.

This script needs scrapping and a splashy flash banner that makes people impulsively click and bring them to the homepage is what is required. Once they've invested the click, they will read and see if its what they like.


I mean, it's not like I study choice-making behavior for a living or anything.

FYI - I bumped into a Newbie yesterday and asked the question "how did you find SK", he said that it was through Top Muds.

Splashy, cool, nice, faster, Flash. I suggest you all give it a try then, if you can do better. Having more samples would be better, we could combine the good pieces of each.

If we have an expert at banner making, animated gif or flash I would gladly take his opinion. In any other case, I will take D's comments.

My own gif banner will be up tomorrow.

Everyone is welcome to apply their talents (or lack thereof). Of course, we invited criticism, but as usual, the number of critics to people who will actually produce is running at 100 to 1.

I haven't been supplied the artwork and I've asked for it. I can make my own, but then they'd be my intellectual property and not Dulrik's, which as I understand it is not wished by him.

There is no such thing as 'an expert at banner making.' There is, however, such a thing as an experienced advertiser through the internet medium and graphics artists.

As a former professional webdeveloper for both private and the department of the Navy, you learn why that is an important distinction.

You could omit the fireball coming in completely and just put the explosion. You could just make a white flash into a black screen into the background with the explosion.

Can we bring this thread back to life? I still would really like to see the banners completed that were talked about here. I thought they had a lot of potential.
