I recently mastered C major with my bard, but I have failed at it twice since doing so.

[HP: 91%] [ME: 24%] [PE: 47%]
> sing c
Your voice cracks as you try to sing the chord.
You chord rings through the air unheard.

[HP: 91%] [ME: 22%] [PE: 47%]

I was under the impression that once you master a spell or song, you will not fail at it, but you may or may not land it fully. Since the preceding text is that for failing the song, I was curious if perhaps this is a bug, or if there is a difference between the mechanics of songs and spells.

I was not wearing anything above light armor, except in the "about waist" slot which does not count when assessing armor penalties.

On a (perhaps) related note, as I was sleeping I only recovered 3 ME during a time tick, and I typically recover well over ten. I was obviously not holding any spells. I'm not sure if that's associated with my failing problem, but any advice on this would be very helpful.

I obviously believe this is some sort of bug or game problem, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: Just for clarity, I had nothing affecting me (was not blinded, deafened, anything.) I checked my affects first when this happened, and there was nothing listed.

It's my understanding that chords work differently than spells in that even when mastered your voice can crack when trying them.

As to the ME regen, I'm not sure, but it could be due to hunger/thirst, both of which will lower your regen rates.

Was not hungry nor thirsty. Like I said, I had nothing adversely affecting me, no affects period, not holding any spells, not singing any songs. I was just resting.

Perhaps you just got a bad regen "roll." Was it just the one tick, or is it now consistently lower?

It was only one particular tick, but that's incredibly low. I get 7 back just from resting, and yet I only got three when I was sleeping. If it was lower than usual but understandable, I'd tack it up to a low roll. But this is like rolling a 7 on a six sided dice.

...One tick of low regen is worth mentioning? If it was happening consistently I'd think it worth mentioning, but one tick's worth of regen isn't a big deal.

Haha, obviously I'll get over it. But I'm confused as to why it would happen, because it seems like that sorta thing is pretty bizarre.

Even mastered spells/skills have a slight chance to fail. IE: You may have the staves skill mastered and be a GM (so it's not a matter of stave's level) and still fail a brandish. You just had a bad roll.

This was always my understanding as well. There are times when you have an extremely fast weapon with all attacks mastered and will only get part of them, even. Mastered does not mean perfect, but near enough to perfect to make it worth practicing the skill/spell and keeping the character around long enough to max it out.

I'm almost certain that mastered spells never fail. Skills can, but not spells.
