This point has been brough up numerous times, by both lighties and darkies. Never has anything been done about it, so I'm assuming that there is a reason it stays the same, I'm just interested in the why:

Why does butchering/skinning a corpse or creating a spirit doll give you the name of the person whose corpse you just hacked up? How is this sensible or helpful to anyone?

It makes no sense that these characters would see a limb or a body, rip it up and automatically know, after even FURTHER mutilation, who it belonged to.

It's an easily exploitable cheater tactic, and I'm not QQing because it was used against me recently, I've QQed about it before and will likely QQ about it later if it's not "fixed."

Getting the name from identify makes sense, getting a name according to a spirit doll makes sense, but getting a name from skinning or butchering a body makes no sense at all. This really does need to be changed.

Dulrik, is this something on your todo list, or is there a reason for it?

While I agree with butchering/skinning a corpse. I think it is alright that you find out who someone is by making a spirit doll of them.

I can -kind of- see it, but it's not as if the spirit is in the dead body anymore.

The echo you get when you cast spirit doll says "the spirits guide you in the creation of the doll." I take that to mean that you're getting instruction from the spirits in how to craft the doll and who to model it after. The spirits aren't restricted by greet, thus, it makes sense that they would be able to tell you the name of the person whose doll you're making.

*shrug* Granted, then. I don't do shamans. However, I still want immortal answers for the skin/butcher phenomenon.

It's as simple as the fact that it was cool to be able to create a trophy out of your defeated enemy and have everyone know it. The game has matured in a different direction since those early days, and I can't argue that it actually makes sense. I'll still be a little sad to see it go though. It's certainly not going to be on my priority list of changes.

Thanks. That's fair enough.

Spirit dolls can make the most sense since it is needed for sorting and it can be argued that the dolls are made in the likeness of that person, but butchering them up or skinning them will distort it all.
