My only frustration is when GMs pop out of nowhere and RP themselves as hardened, knowledgeable veterans at the ripe IC age of 18. A simple hour/age requirement would solve that, IMHO.

I have thought that for a very long time, the level restriction should be based on years, but never voiced it because I figure it would be shot down quickly.

I don't agree with that... I mean if people put in 1001 hrs, such as Peso, then they deserve to be GM. Heck, even 200 hrs. I mean yes, it would be nice if they did RP at some point before GM, but i dont think as many ppl would play if they had to wait like say 10 weeks to be GM.

The problem is with the RP, not the leveling part.

Being GM is a reflection of your prowess, it doesn't make you a veteran (except of battles, which you will, naturally, have had a ton of).

Very true. So do you think you could get to be a Champion at any age, but then a time frame on GM?

No, those who RP themselves as hardened, knowledgable veterans now with their plvled GMs would RP themselves as hardened, knowledgable veterans with their plvled champs...

The problem isn't the leveling system (except that it takes way, way too long for the average player), it's those who cannot leave sufficient amounts of OOC knowledge behind, or at least take the back row until their char knows the ropes.

Point taken. But from the other side, they can get to GM in, I don't know, less than 100 hours...why would those people want to switch it. They can RP more and not have to worry about it interfering with leveling.

I don't know how you would put in a system to slow down to GM, but I like the idea.

I highly, highly doubt any players would quit if the progression from Master -> GM were changed at all. As for your comment about Peso, I'm not sure how that's really relevant at all. Peso posted his hours because, for once (or perhaps twice now), he kept a GM longer than two weeks. Nobody "deserves" to be GM, it's just another level that you earn.

Konge makes a good point, though. The IC attitudes of characters are determined by the OOC attitudes of players, and that's pretty much impossible to change with code. Still, an age requirement for the levels above 41 doesn't seem like a bad possibility, to me. It certainly wouldn't hurt the average players, but serve as a reminder that some characters really aren't that old, yet, despite their level.

I don't understand how harder leveling cuts DOWN on reincarnate + call armor. Harder leveling = more deaths = more reincarnate/call armor.

With a fast leveling system, you can offset the exp. lost due to reincarnate. Thus, the faster leveling is, the more likely paladins can rejoin the fight with all of their equipment in an instant.

I think a Human Swashbuckler would probably be the easiest thing to level right now. Maybe even a Human Bard...
