A deer is DEAD!!
You hear a deer's death cry.
I see nothing like that in the corpse.

You can't find it.

You butcher the corpse and carve up some steaks.

You get a steak of an animal.

Now I can't tell what kind of animal it is I'm eating. If I grab up a steak, I'd like to be able to know WHAT animal it was, as opposed to not having any clue. because no one wants to eat skunk when they're looking for a juicy rare large tiger. Is there any way to separate animals and other creatures from mortals? I really want to see what kind of animal my steaks are again.

I think this was the fix requested in the thread about PC steaks/skins. I'd take generic steaks over magically PC-named steaks, but I'm sure Dulrik's working on a more accurate fix.

...right?

I didn't really see what the big deal was with the way things were before, either. The big deal with the changes caught on by the qq-ing, however, involves aesthetics.

I really hate the way skins are messed up.

The skins thing is a little bizzare, but the steaks thing is fine. After all, if you've got steaks in your backpack, collected over the course of IC months or years, you're not going to remember which hunk of meat is from which kill.

GL, what was so bad before is idiots who decided to take the magically applied name of a PC on a steak and use that info ICly, rather than do the intelligent, responsible thing and not do so.

My other objection to this, is that when skins are now created, there's no more color to them because of the change - this was one of the really nifty things about finding animals with colored names, was that the colors would hold when making skins/armor out of them. The flying serpents are a prime example.
