What should be done about the people hiding in Cabal HQs?
Nothing! I like Hide and Seek! 59%  59%  [ 10 ]
Tear down the HQ's! BURN! DESTROY! 12%  12%  [ 2 ]
Perhaps nerf the Guardians? Make raiding a bit easier so relics can be swapped more often and HQ's more accessible. 6%  6%  [ 1 ]
Make HQ's open with only one massively strong Guardian that guards a relic, or certain parts of it clsoed off with guardians. 24%  24%  [ 4 ]

Actually no. I've never really had loot and frankly, don't care much for it. My characters have always worked with what's available and what I can find. I still don't know the game well so loot's never been a primary concern. Yeah, sure I would like it, but who wouldn't? The thing is finding people to RP with as most of them hide in cabal HQ's or other things. It's the RP, not the loot that bugs me.

Sending someone a tell basically saying "Hi how ya doing" etc in character is weird, and despite the mechanics of the game allowing it, I'd rather meet a person face to face. What's the point of playing if you hide out and never meet new potential allies?

Well... I can see both sides of the fence pretty clearly here.

It sucks not to find the person you're looking for. But if it's really just for RP there's a thing called tells. Get a few detect potions if you're a warrior and start the communication! If it's for PK, like OA said, get a group up and go hunt the bastard down.

As far as the people hiding, I understand why they do it. When it takes you hours get get a good suit, then days to enchant it to your liking, you aren't going to want to loose it. So I can see why some people are very attached to their things.

Also, if you know someone is hunting you down, why not hide? It's foolish to engage in battles when you aren't instigating. That's the name of the game. Make the first move or run.

So... yeah. Nothing needs to be changed. I'd love to see more people in the Inns, but I personally would hate to be forced to sit there. A reasonable PK group can easily take down the outer guardian.

I see both sides, but I tend to lean to getting rid of the HQ's all together.

Back in the day before Cabals had HQ's, generally we would find a good defensible place and hang out there. Often it was right out in front of the blood temple in Krychire, or the town square in Teron, unless we were doing a ritual or something, then it was in an out of the way keep or something. We made our cabal HQ whereever we wanted to for that day and we set our own defenses and didn't need guardians. I thought it worked pretty good. You had to be more on your toes because you had no warning of an attack, and you had to rely more on strategy. What was good about that system, people would cluster in the inns as there was safety in numbers. This allowed for more role play.

Today on the other hand, I can level a character to GM without anyone knowing the character exists.. unless my character dies and needs to get back to life. This really isn't that good. Say there are a group of people that I enjoyed playing with in the past. Unless I tell them OOCly who I am or use my own OOC info about them to contact them... there is no honest way for my character to just meet them.

I've also noticed the player base drop considerably after some of the changes, including Cabal HQ's. The reasoning for many is the same as I'm giving. And when asked if they bothered to talk to anyone about it, they simply said, "Why? It won't do any good."

Maybe I'm off base here, but I say get rid of the cabal HQ's and go back to the old way.

Hmm. My group met up in HQ when we knew we were about to be attacked, left the HQ, looked for the party in question, and then got a message from our guardian saying that they wanted to rumble.

I really hope this is not a QQ fest about THAT, because we weren't hiding at all - just knew meeting in the city while the opposing group was already staged just outside of it was unreasonable.

My vote? wert / the "QQ more, noob" option

Next time, look at the time stamp of the original post. It's a good two hours at least before that event.

Much more like, "The time stamps don't correspond with any sort of real time to me, so I'm going to post my response whenever the hell I get around to reading the thread."

That's a response I was looking for! I mean seriously, why are people so scared to hang out and RP ? Is loot really that important?

Its this reason why I don't travel in commonly used areas much anymore. People still inn RP, but the fundamental problem with your proposition/argument/complaint/whatever-you-want-to-call-it (because I have no idea what it should be called :P) is that there are certain people who won't stop to RP. If I hang out in the inn, my [REDACTED] is going to get handed to me on a silver platter. If I'm lucky, I'll get an RP once out of every 10 deaths... Personally, I don't mind getting EQ, but I don't play this game to just get EQ all day, and loose it within an hour. So, if the pbase is complaining about the ability to not be able to find someone, then we can only blame ourselves for not taking time to RP and creating the MUD we now have...
