First, I don't think any of the symbols give bumps higher than +2.

Second, I would like to see non-priest HF's being able to order a priest of their faith to make a symbol. It makes IC sense and yet keeps the symbol making under control.

All symbols are +3, actually.

You mean our IMMs will actually have to do something productive finally?

Obviously this is one part of the current SK that you are out of touch with. Few groupings of staff members have been as interactive, helpful, and courteous as the staff we have now. Everybody has their days, but I think you'll find that this sentiment is pretty much gone. It only exists in the minds of the oldbies who come back remembering when staffers were less responsive. Responsive != better, but it sure shows you are more interested.

I wouldn't be opposed to giving HFs the ability to create symbols. For those that are worried about keeping symbols rare, perhaps limit the amount the skill can be used (by a non-clergy class) per week?

I'll post my usual response. Symbols are not super powerful. They grant small bonuses to stats, but their main value is as a symbol of your RP. Therefore I mandate that you must RP to get them. If you don't have a chance to get one for awhile, it certainly doesn't cripple your character, so the complaining about lack of access doesn't hold much water.

Yes, symbols are different than back when some oldbies were originally playing. They need to accept the fact that things play differently now.

That may be true, but you need to accept the fact that this is a game with a wide array of play styles - not just the play style you see fit.

Instead of making those rooms unlock with said symbols, it should unlock at the verbal request of said member. If you are flagged as part of the faith then the door should open upon command for ya instead of a silly symbol unlocking it.

That defeats the purpose of how some faiths have to get their armor and by some faiths I am certainly not speaking of Lightie faiths.

First of, damn you all to hell for your worship of Idoltry!

Sorry. School leaked into SK there for a moment. Really interesting things how the worship of the idol rather than the God can become so much more important.

Oh wait. That sounds like this thread. Wearing a cross around your neck does not make you a Christian. It is the faith and belief you have in your God. Wearing the Star of David does not make you Jewish. It is the faith and belief you have in your God. Having a Buddha does not make you a Buddhist. It is the faith and believ you have in your practice.

Do we see the point yet?

Symbols are just that. They could be identifying marks of the faith you belong in. My character is HP of her faith and you know what? Whenever she feels as if she is straying from her faith, she removes her symbol and tucks it away. Others have been asked to give up their symbols when they fall (as the cat just did off the bed) from the path.

The only thing you really need the symbols for is the armor and that should never be the reason you join a faith.

There is a reason to keep symbols off of NPCs. How many times would someone(s) go kill the NPC with the symbol to get someplace they want? Those who want into certain locations have to use force or trickery to get the symbols.

And I really don't recall either of our symbols being terribly impressive. I think one adds a little of something. Maybe.

You never saw the old symbols way back in the day then.

Holy symbols are an extension of divine power made material. These should be highly sought after items, especially for people that aren't directly connected to their god, that is, classes other than paladin, hellion and priest.

My human necromancer used to traipse around with a symbol of Aludra on, and lots of people used to think, oh she's an aludran. I like that kind of angle on RP, that you can just pick something up and fool people with it. But that kind of RP has been lost now, since you have to get a symbol directly from someone that can make them, and they're probably not going to just hand them out to people that aren't part of the faith because of what the symbol represents.
