Post subject: Variation in Skill Sets
PostPosted: Fri Nov 16, 2007 3:41 pm
Is there ANY way we can diversify the skillset even a bit? I know there are some people that want it only for the abuse, but say trade off dagger mace flail and staff so I can pick up spear because it fits in with the concept design.

I mean if there is any way to trade off skills for something else as long as it is for the concept versus pure pk.

I really think there should be variety in skill sets. One of my biggest things that is holding SK back is the lack of diversity between chars (merc, cleric, and shaman exceptions). The rest of the classes are pretty much always the same. That is why I suggested that there should be skill trees that when you get to a certain spot during your training. You have to choose a path to go down. For instance, you can have mercs go down one of 3 paths (or more as appropriate): sword and board, two-hander, bowmaster. Each path with unique skills but would not have some of the other things the other two paths would have. Same could be done for every class (not the same paths but different specialties)

This also falls into the elite winning out ALL the time because everything is pretty much the same and items pretty much make the difference.

Well, no one says you have to train every weapon you can. I'd also note that mercenaries already have weapon specialization, and priests already get a different spell or two.

I can see a few more classes getting such minor specialization. But I don't see the merit of trying to make major divisions, as you suggest for mercs. You might as well make different classes entirely, and that's a lot of work. Not only do you have to create and balance the classes, but then you have to change every NPC in the world to fit.

Yana, the more I read of your proposals, the more I realize you want to play a completely different game. So why don't you?

You like 32 better than 33?

i feel in an unusually intolerant mood today, and would thus like to point out that i would very much enjoy it if you didn't decide to trivialize my heritage into an insult towards a white kid.
