I've seen a few different ways people manage to sing their own songs, and while most irritate me in way or another, I was just wondering which was the least irritating according to the majority.

I've always gone the emote/say route: myself, but if somebody walks in mid-performance, you look like you're out of your mind.

There's always say *singing* ... but the asterisks to describe tone are annoying more often than not. And then you get things like So-and-so tells you '*in a voice that makes you pee your pants* hi'.

My favorite would be the emote styled to look like normal speech, but I'm almost positive I saw someplace that speech in emotes isn't generally acceptable.

Apart from having a new way coded (which is periodically suggested, and not what I'm going for here) what's the best - or the least obnoxious - way to sing?

The method you describe is my preference too (yet there is only one vote? *poke*).

Consider that emotes are a success/fail language check (Adara makes some incomprehensible gestures) - the partially readable lyrics are preferable for those who don't have the singer's language perfected.

As for someone walking in during your performance - just continue the emotes in between lines:
Adara continues to sing, a voice in perfect pitch.

Oh, I've done/do that between verses, but it still lacks a certain...style. That is the one I have the least irritation for, at least.

From your example, you clearly never heard Adara sing.

We really need a singing say, so that it would take language into consideration. Something like:

I prefer doing it in colorized emotes. If language check kicks it, so be it.

The whole emote begins singing followed by a string of says I don't really enjoy seeing, but that's my preference.

Say *singing*... is my second choice.

I have been doing all Gasbah's songs in colorized emotes, too. I really think that a /sing command is sooooo in order, please, PLEASE implement it? It would give people one more motive to write and perform their own songs.

Using emotes seems like the most realistic thing to do. In real life I can't understand more than half of what todays rappers are 'rapping' about and I certainly cant distinguish the diva-style warblings of the current chart-busters as english. So, for me, seeing incomprehensible gestures is just a normal part of listening to music. N_G

Hrm... but what color? Technically, you're still using a language, so the colors should still match I would have thought. Now don't quote me (avoids Dulrik's stern gaze), but would a sing command that is an exact replica of the say command work?

That is, instead of various styles of this:

Adelia says '*singing* The hils are dead with the...

It could be done thus:
> sing The hills are dead with the...
Adelia sings 'The hills are dead with the...

It could even be targetted, in theory:
> singto Dopey The hills are dead with the...
Adelia sings to Dopey, 'The hills are dead with the...

I know everyone seem to want more of a unique snowflake approach (additional color, asterisks, etc), but this would at least separate them from SAY text in a natural way, and lessen the need to use the emote commands incorrectly.

edit: I'll apologise now for 'unique snowflake' reference; honestly I couldn't think of a better turn of phrase for that.

the colorization was in the emotes. You know, the brown or gold part and the white part. Make it look like it's a coded song.

Some of mine looked just like the coded song but others looked just enough off that people would pick it up.
