This argument isn't really about Slayne. He's just an example. If you can gain respect and loyalty without being the ultimate-PK master, that's fine with me. But since Achernar reminded me, I did a bit more searching on the records and found that Slayne's PK ratio was almost 5-to-1. That is, he killed almost 5 players for every time he was killed by a player. That seems like quite a respectable record to me.

While at first glance a 5-1 ratio seems competent, it's actually absolutely awful. Respectable in nearly any other mud (and sk, although since we don't keep track of ratios here it is somewhat meaningless) is along the lines of getting 50 or more kills for every death.

Cannibal is a fine player and he rps spectacularly. If everyone who played SK was of his caliber this game would be a hell of a lot better.

wtfever. You can steamroll a ton of newbs to get a 50 to 1 PK ratio. Just take juggernaut's warlock for an example. He's not a spectacular PKer but he's managed to drop a ton of people.

I agree. That's why a 5-1 ratio when you aren't even keeping in mind level, equipment, or skill level is awful.

The only skills you need to be good in PK at SK are abilty to think under pressure and typing.

we must have been playing a different game because i recall myself as youma as well as frollith and a bunch of other leaders at the time clearly acknowledging his title with the proper respect. the midnight council didn't really do anything to stop him either. why would your ability to pk him in a world where resurrection is commonplace matter? if his followers still give him his respect, then it shouldn't.

you need to start looking at the bigger picture, i think.

I understand that its less relevant that Slayne was mass pked...

Uh.... mass pked? In the records I can view over 18 months of playing died an average of twice a month. He didn't publicly proclaim himself the Emperor until sometime in late 2006. Half of his deaths were before that. I call bullocks. Name the character with which you playerkilled 5 people for every time you were pked.

I guess half of his deaths occured after that.

I mean how many people make massive claims and don't get any attention from it? I don't really care that he was made an NPC I just think there are countless other chars who deserve to be made into npcs more. In all honesty, PK kinda is what counts in terms of earning respect and getting things done. You can rp all you want, but if your getting your [REDACTED] kicked left and right, it doesn't make any sense for your character to be getting things done. I mean how else are you suppose to make them do what you want, or prevent them from doing what they want? roleplay owning them?

I was actually tossing around the idea of making Arsilan king of Taslamar before the whole RP ran with Queen Serena coming back. Before that the Justiciar had complete authority and say so in the land of Taslamar anyway, so it wasn't going to be a far leap.

Dunno how far I would have got with that though. Despite the fact that I owned major face in PK with that character he was despised on the homefront, and there was too much ooc whining about ic actions.

I declared myself plenty of titles in my time, had people acknowledge them, had a great PK record, and was told flat out by the imms that no named NPCs would be made of PCs.

I think at the end of the day, you really just need to know and approach the right immortal. The RP and the PK take secondary place to that, and anyone who says otherwise is completely full of crap.

I know that in the past, that is what D said, Jardek. I am happy that PC actions can affect the IC and have affects that last beyond their normal lives. I guess it is a way of mini-immortalizing them. This is a good turn.
