How common are the various 'special damage' items? Are negative and positive and elemental damage weapons common or rare? How about in arrow form?

Rather off topic, but I have a question about iron weapons. As we all know, Elves, sprites and some others are weak to common iron weapons, but yet they seem to break quite easy. (Go up against a heavy armored elf in say diamond or addy and you'll be lucky if your weapon lasts 5 rounds i imagine.)

So my questions are as follows.

Is the damage bonus from Iron weapons on things weak to it really noticable that it warrants using it?

And

Are Cold Iron weapons more sturdy than common iron? I've never really used them because of how fragile iron seems to be (Atleast in my experiences they tend to generally be low quality.)

I think in the code update introducing cold-iron into the game it was stated that it was as sturdy as tanso.

There are a set of arrows that do 'special damage' especially useful against warlocks.

Pretty much the entire point of cold iron was to introduce a sturdier iron.

Ah, alright. Thanks guys I wasn't sure if it was comparable to tanso or not. I appreciate the info.

I think special damage weapons are TOO common among certain weapon types, actually. I'm not lumping cold iron in this, because that's a material. And bow isn't one of them. If I recall the elite energy firing longbow was removed from the game (I haven't been back to that shop in a while), and while there is one item that does some really neat things with arrows - it's either that, or go hunt down the tracker. I'd say bows could use something in the special damage department.

Isn't the elite quiver in the game still? Why cheapen the difficulty to get it from a rather tough and certainly cheating NPC by introducing a lot of easy to get !SS arrows.

If you want just 5-6 arrows, for ambush openings, go buy from a certain NPC. For more, sucks to be you.

Generally now, it certainly needs to be reduced. While the spirit/sonic/flame/freezing/negative/etcetc attack types are ok as ideas, I kinda miss the days when weapons slashed/pierced/crushed. When the change happened, most of the deadly wrath weapons were made like that. But then, every good weapon that was added had similar attack types as well. Stop the madness.

Yes, the elite quiver is in the game. What's wrong, however, with actually having arrows of flaring light? Or something like the elite quiver, but works with the opposite element? No one is saying add a lot of easy to get !ss arrows. Notice I said bows in my previous post. Stop blowing things out of proportion, DA. Of course, you won't be able to comply with that request, because that's your MO, isn't it?
