With one char, I came up with the name for the Guardians, was ICly responsible for the undead caverns turning into the outpost (sorry), declared myself Emperor and paraded around Menegroth for months, destroyed statues of the then-emperor (albeit with very amusing help, I wonder if I still have that log), built the wall around sith'a'niel, and stuck around as leader of the guardians and led truth until half-elf middle age (48 weeks?). I also had the heir to the throne of Sith'a'niel killed (because he was the child of two PCs I didn't like). Just as an example. Also, I inducted dark auras into the guardians - why? Because I am just that [REDACTED] badass.

I'll compare that to Delear.

Delear had six fingers and wanted to be a liche.

I'll compare it to Frollith.

Frollith got leadership of the hammer purely by default because there was nobody else and he'd hung around for a long time. This was after, if memory serves, he'd been rejected by the hammer as a candidate because he was a [REDACTED] and because he's the worst roleplayer in the universe (I know this because I was the leader at one stage when he was considered, and we all had a good laugh). He then continued to hang around.

I can't compare it to Slayne because I wasn't around for Slayne.

Reading that over, it comes across a bit bitter, so I'll add a disclaimer - I really don't care that none of my chars were made into NPCs. I enjoyed every second of playing SKs. I made this post simply to illustrate the fact that it really is who you know rather than what you do that makes you an NPC (although to be fair, I have known and gotten along well with a number of imms in my time).

You mean it was not Catriona who messed up the Knights of selkwood?

You took the good name of knights of selkwood, drove them through the mud, (not the game, no.) destroyed perfectly beautiful RP set up between 2 characters (though I never much liked the king of sith being the kid of an elf and halfelf either), then you did some other stuff as an imperial.

I suppose the only thing I can say 'well done' here is well done for being less horrible than catriona with a faction that once had a good name, yeah? :P


As for frollith, I don't remember you being a leader of the hammer at any time when he was about. I inducted him, and I dont remember ever uninducting him. Then again, I went away about 1 year after I inducted him, for 1 year, so I don't know what went on in there.


No doubt, jardek, your characters are badass. The problem is, they smell 'i want to be badass sooo bad' when you see them. Frollith, slayne and delear didn't. thats what makes them special. They were loved for being what they were, not out of trying for something :p

In fact you should be turned into a buff:

No, I was a leader of the hammer long, long before you played Aurius, and some people suggested we consider frollith for membership back then (we didn't). I remember you inducting Frollith, and I remember a few of us, having previously played Hammers, having a good laugh/cry about it.

KoS was an ill-fitting title that that didn't make a lot of sense. Centaurs don't come from Selkwood, for the most part, nor do a lot of others who wanted to defend Ayamao. The purpose of the namechange was to bring credence to the idea that Ayamao was an alliance, which had been pushed into the background since Camby. Obviously because you have strong ties to the KoS, having played a previous leader, you think any change to it is bad. The simple fact is though that it had become a bunch of mudsexxors, and I kicked them out and made the group badass (though I can't claim credit - it belongs to the people who backed me and shared the tribunal).

You might be right about the badass thing - I like to think of myself as an RPer, but I do tend to min/max a lot. Ah well, c'est la vie.

As per frollith, I don't see how it couldve been possible for him to have been considered for the hammer long before I inducted him, considering I picked him up at like veteran from the temple when he could barely buy stuff from vendors without messing up the commands :p

Remember that fro was benzo's first char on SK. I'd say compared to my first char, he did amazingly well ;p

I'll begin with the caveat that I haven't been an active part of the SK universe in a long time. However, in the 10+ years since I first started playing SK, I have played influential (aka world-influencing) characters who have been both denied and granted various recognition by immortals and I have also played immortals who have both denied and granted these kinds of recognition to various player characters who have had far greater influence in the SK world than any of my singular PCs.

In my experience, Jardek's right on this subject. It has been dealt with by the immstaff over the years in an extremely inconsistent manner and some player characters (including a few of Jardek's) have been far more influential to the game without any such "formal" recognition than other "less worthy" characters who have been immortalized in the game as NPCs or in other ways. Sometimes it has been a matter of favoritism by immortals- I still consider the D'Astae camp to be one of the most egregious of these offenses and still to this day have refused to ever go to the area because of it. Sometimes it has been a matter of the player's OOC actions whether because of 'cheating' or 'twinking' or quite simply being such an A-hole OOCly to the immstaff and/or other players that they were denied such benefits- honestly, I do not generally fault the immstaff for this because I've seen how truly horrible and malicious some players have chosen to be and no matter how "good" of a player they may be, that kind of behavior in a community should NEVER be rewarded. Some players only gain notoriety due to their OOC connections with other players, and/or their OOC behavior in the forums, rather than the ACTUAL quality of their character's roleplay or skill. Sometimes it is simply that certain players happen to ask at the right time & place, or their request fulfills a specific need/weakness within the MUD. Sometimes certain players just happen to play in the same timeframes as the more active immortals and are "visible" to the immstaff in ways that others are not. Sometimes the immstaff as a whole is more active than at other times, sometimes they are more active in building, and sometimes the "mood" of the immstaff leans toward more proactive "tangible" interaction with the players that may manifest in things like PCs-turned-NPC while sometimes IMM-fatigue caused by overwork, relentless abuse from players, or other factors turn the general "mood" of the imms away from this kind of work.

Quite frankly, the only way that complete consistency could ever be achieved would be to refuse any kind of recognition or requests from the ENTIRE playerbase without exception. It would stop the whining about who's "worthy" or not, but ultimately, in my opinion, would leave the MUD much worse off. Sure, it might be hard to achieve it now, but at least it's actually been possible from time to time.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. :)

For the record, mudsex0rs have been in the game since the very beginning.

The character of Frollith had a lot of ups and downs. He had a really rough start; I remember having a pretty low opinion of him at the beginning. However, by the time I played Kharev and worked alongside him in the Hammer, his character had improved drastically. It was Benzo's first character, and I don't know very many people who haven't seen some really rough patches with their first character (to this day I still mock nothingxs for his first character, who was a ridiculous laughingstock at best). These first characters are our introduction to the MUD; where we learn how to play, and oftentimes become some of the longest-lived PCs in the game. Despite the many weaknesses they have, they also bring a much-needed breath of fresh air & longevity to a playerbase that otherwise grows stale, unimaginative, and, frankly, often quite petty once they learn the ins & outs and overconfident in their 'mastery' of the game. I enjoy seeing those who manage to grow and flourish and actually improve in the ways that Benzo did with Frollith.

I do think I recall hearing / seeing Frollith in his earlier days and thinking "what the hell," and then being much more impressed with him in my days playing as Youma.

Also, can we please just assume Iori was my first? Forget Daisuke. :drunk:

I don't know how this turned into a thread about the jolly frolly boy. He started the way everybody starts out: bad. I don't think anybody can blame him for that, that's just how first characters are. Completely bewildered and uncertain and messy. In my time leading I met plenty of completely inept RPers probably on their first character, trying to join the Hammer. All you can do is give them gentle suggestions and tell them to come back later, with something more solid. Or, if you're an [REDACTED], you can just laugh them out of town for being a newbie, and feel good about yourself. Kudos to Frollith for not quitting at that reception. Even when he got in you could still tell he was new, but he continually improved over the long life of his character. Eventually he became one of those "nexus" characters people talk about. Maybe he didn't match up to some of the moldy oldies people like to bring up, but at his time and place he was an important figure that people gathered around. He made RP initiatives. He was a lightie role model when there were very few, if any, lightie role models. They were in bad shape. I was leading the Hammer, that's how you know things were bad. He was a nice guy, did plenty for a long time, kept players in the game, and he deserved whatever he got.

I believe I would [REDACTED] myself laughing if any of my characters left anything within the SK world. And you people can speak for yourself, my first character was my Sorc and he didn't have a bad start at all, short of Cabal Hopping and killing my two college buds for no IC reason.
