This is a request to all current KDs:

Please move your respective recall points back inside cities. Or, if I'm mistaken and this is directly under Dulrik's control, perhaps you could do it? Leave the portal stones - they're fine where they are.

The placement of the recall points could be thematic (such as Sith'a'niel's lemonade fountain, or Nerina's plaza) or it could just be in the back of the inns. Keeping them outside the inn will help to keep ambush-based PK out of the way of newbies, but it will also lower edit: potential inn traffic a bit. It doesn't matter a whole lot either way. They just need to be inside the cities.

This idea has been suggested many, many times, and I see no downside to it. Please make it happen.

Perhaps its just not making sense to me...

But you said putting recall points in cities will keep ambush-based pk out of the way of newbies? Wouldn't that just mean the pk is placed within the city, thus in the way of newbies?

Less traffic for inns? Wouldn't there be more as its right next to the inn? Just my observations.

I don't understand why people need to recall back inside cities other than to avoid pk. But...I was told recalling use to be in cities, but it use to be xp taxing to do so? So Big D placed it at the portals and the only exchange was you may get pked a bit easier, and you may lose a bit of PE, but you're not losing XP.

There just shouldn't be any changes. Leave as is.

No, I said placing the recall points outside of the inns would keep ambush-based PK away from potential newbies in the inn.

This would absolutely produce more traffic for inns.

I think you just misread a bit, maybe?

I guess I am :/

I still don't understand how keeping recall points outside of the inn, but next to the inn (IE: Exile Cross) would keep it away from newbies/less traffic for inns.

Nope.

Recalling used to be a simple case of waiting for your pulse to stop racing and completely XP free and took you straight back to the fountain at your home town's centre square, where there'd typically be a gathering of any number of other bodies whiling away the time and waiting for the next gate kill raid to come crashing in (sorry, speaking from a distinctly Taslamaran biased point of view!).

Then with the redesign / rebuild of certain cities, recall points got moved to more thematic, slightly less centrally placed points; typcially an Inn, like the courtyard of the Hart and Rose, for example. Recall was still XP free.

Then Dulrik introduced the portal stones, moved recall outside of the cities for anybody over level 5 and put a seriously a huge wack of XP penalty onto using the command.

This killed the use of the recall command and caused a fair degree of public outcry, so Dulrik reduced and then eventually removed the XP penalty from Recall, leaving it as you now find it today.

I think the basic thrust of Salandarin's post is he misses the good old days of the fountain RPer :) or at the very least, the sense of vibrancy and community such people used to create, even if they were often derided and never credited for doing so.

As inactive as I currently am, I do still agree with him, and for my part apologise for what small role I may once have had to play in their eventual demise.

For Exile, I was actually thinking the center of the temple. Same for Menegroth. It depends quite a lot on the placement of the point.

And yeah, tat hit the nail on the head.

Sorry, but it is already too easy to get inside cities. We don't need an easier target.

Dulrik's idea behind this is that not all characters RP they are from that city, so they can go to their respective city, like Grahme/Elisiar, from the stones, more easily.

ITS RP N00B. :-?

If you moved recall points back into the cities you'd have to make the consequences for city combat reduced significantly. Fighting in a city tends to rack up dozens of crimes (people fleeing, then chasing them down, then more combat, plus spellcasters who get a crime for each cast, plus random citizen NPCs that assist or get hit by aoe) and if people always recalled into cities more pk would happen there.

I'm against it because it makes players much harder to kill, and some cities are just absurdly hard to break into without large groups. Krychire is tough to get into even without any crimes. Exile is hard if you have a long crime list, because one missed bash on a bounty NPC and it getting off a holy word = goodbye party buffs.

A halfway compromise could be to have recall put you in the inns, and word of recall put you at the stones. If you're wording you're in combat, and you'll go someplace where people can still hunt you down. If you're recalling normally, it's unlikely you have been in combat and are being actively pursued.
