That makes no sense. If you don't have the concentration available to intimidate someone then how do you intimidate them in the first place?

It's an automatic skill. It doesn't check whether you have enough concentration to do it; there's no "you don't have enough concentration left" message. I wasn't bashed, tripped, taunted, or "THAT REALLY DID HURT"ed, if you will. I attacked a NPC around several lesser assisting NPCs, and immediately lost all my spells.

And get it straight, intimidate has been working all these years greatly and none said it was crap. Until you rolled a hellion now and want it buffed. Go figure.

No, intimidate hasn't been working fine and great all these years. It is just that nobody else has taken the initiative to complain about this.

I, was, in the past, unable to test intimidate. I rolled a hellion and found that something silly was going on so I've made a complaint about it. I was also unaware that this happened until Cannibal brought it up some time ago as well.

I probably should have filed this thread under Bug Discussion too.

I'm quite unclear as to what you are saying. Perhaps you could have provided a short log showing what happened?

He's saying that intimidate doesn't check for whether concentration is available or not, it just automatically takes a portion of concentration available, and if it has to shunt other spells off your held list, it does so.

It is still very nebulous. Was he front row and taking damage from NPCs? There's a billion unanswered questions I could ask.

I agree this is a smart way to use intimidate, but its this kind of thinking and playing that makes me unable to take characters that use these kind of 'tricks' seriously in-character.

I mean, Imagine reading a book:
A dark knight, strutting around a city scaring off every attacker. Then, one noble guard grits his teeth and manages to attack him! - The dark knight runs away. the noble guard gives chase, but after the next turn, he cowers away from the fleeing knight.

To me this is as lame rp-wise as the trick that caused a certain cabal skill to be nerfed when you played keroc.
But then again, this is just my personal opinion.

Cyra, as for what use the intimidate skill is, Do you know of any other class that can make a paladin be -forced- to RP being scared shitless? I know that people won't RP intimidation properly 95% of the time, but if they actually did, Intimidate would mean no enemy to the hellion standing close to him should be able to be very relaxed. Even in negotiations.

Mechanics wise i will agree with DA and Gilgon. Intimidate is fine.
Rpwise I suggest intimidate starts being roleplayed more by those who get intimidated. :P

That is what a hellion should be like. He'd rather his enemies acquiesce to defeat before even fighting him or issuing a challenge just because of his scary reputation.

I misread that, and no it doesn't, the intimidation doesn't mean that it makes people uneasy around the hellion. They tend to be very charismatic people. Intimidation, their unholy aura that protects them from aggressions because of their sheer awesomeness only comes into play when an aggressive action is made. You either fight or shut up and go home.

Anybody that is intimidated by the hellion is defeated, that's the way I'd RP it at least. You scared = hellion wins.

I was front row, mounted on a flying nightmare, and I attacked Valerian whatsislastface, the imperial ambassador to teron. I immediately lost -all- my spells. I won't call it a bug or anything, because it does sort of make sense, in a way. I mean, the hellion is trying to completely dominate the mind of one sentient being and simultaneously trying to hold off three or four attackers with the sheer power of his presence and appearance.

As far as intimidation RP goes--I agree with you almost completely. The exception would be hellion duels, because if the duel ended as soon as one guy got a little scared of the other, hellion duels would be nothing but a random toss-up of who fails a skill check first. At the moment, they're at least a bit more challenging. :P

Hellion-related RP (or the lack thereof) is very disappointing, though. People just don't seem to want to be scared. They all want to have a tough, badass character who punches your face in as soon as you look at him the wrong way. News flash--that's what a hellion is supposed to be. When he dominates you, he's taking over your mind by brute force! When he intimidates you, you are literally so scared that you'd rather try to solo a dragon naked than even get near this guy!

I hate it when people take things like this to be nothing more than code. I really do.

I'd really love to see a paladin of courage explaining intimidation ICly.
