I thought newbie areas were off limits to those who aren't either newbies or mentors? I think that doing this could actually cause you to lose your status as a mentor. I'm not really against leveling, I just seem to remember that being the policy when mentors were created. That and its impossible to go beyond familiar in the newbie zone. Those reasons seem like an invitation for leveling, but I really don't know what to respond with. I think we need Dulrik's say in this situation. My gut instinct is to run and hide. I think it either needs to be addressed at the builder level, addressed with staff intervention and loss of mentor command, or simply be called legitimate and annoying both.

Taslamar's newb school is much like Ayamao's. You can go in to where the skill/spell trainers are, but you can't go in to where the newbies go in to kill NPCs unless you're a mentor of the appropriate kingdom, or under level 5.

I know I lost my Mentor right for doing this with my Hellion.... but all the silver and copper.... *drools*

I don't see anything wrong with killing the NPC trainers, as was already said the newbie area has a really fast repop time, and the trainers are master level NPCs. Seems perfectly acceptable that a dark aura'd character might break into a light aura'd city and commit *gasp* dark aura'd deeds, like killing a few of the weaponmasters in the city.

No, these are the newbie mentors, not the training NPCs. They teach the newbies skills, spells and review the level advancement requests.

I don't understand what all this is about. I was the tribunal leader of the Peacekeepers when Algorab was redoing the newbie school. The current newbie school in Taslamar is a vast improvement over the old one. The respawn rate was also dramatically increased. These trainers respawn every 1-2 minutes. It sounds like you are just flat impatient.

Perhaps you are just unused to the way that dark aura characters tend to level. But, from my standpoint, they are not causing you an inconvenience. If waiting the one to two minutes for a respawn is too long a wait then there's nothing that can help you. The game simply does not revolve around you.

I find it silly to have to say to darkies that you simply cannot do this because someone might be impatient. It is perfectly legitimate for these NPCs to be used for xp gain.

There is no such thing as mentor NPCs and leveling NPCs in this game. It's perfectly acceptable for any darkie (hell, even a greybie) to be killing these NPCs (both OOCly and ICly). During the bonanza I even rolled an alt that leveled in Taslamar while this person was killing the NPCs and had no problem at all training my spells and skills. As others have said, the respawn rate is ridiculously quick.

Leave it. If we had a larger pbase and it happened more often, I would say just nerf the level on the newbie trainers and people will stop killing them for XP.

I agree that there's no point for Imm intervention. In any other training area, the trainer NPCs can be and have been killed for levelling. I don't see why Exile should be so special. I've never heard any whining about killing the trainers in Teron, or the pens in Ayamao, which happens very frequently.

Frankly, I don't see it as a big deal.

I am guilty of doing this, but I certainly didn't know or suspect that it was against the rules. It's not a newbie that's being killed, but the trainers - and I would have thought of it as a boon, because they're essentially leaving newbies a bunch of steaks and free equipment.

Jesus, I would have loved that when I was a newbie :(

Edit: In fact, I came across a newbie while I was doing it, and RPed with them for a good ten minutes, then gave them mentoring in languages and spells.

Hm, I think at one point, I was in said newbie school buying a flask when I got side tracked and ended up having a conversation with another person, who was also not a 'newbie'. An IMM msged us and told us that we weren't supposed to hang out at the newbie school, which we didn't know about until we read some help file.

Help mentor file:
Quote:
You are allowed to enter the newbie school for the sole purpose of helping students.

Is this actually curse-able? I'm curious.

I'm curious to get the opinion of the area designer on the issue of what is and isn't appropriate here specifically - Algorab?
