If you think they're overpowered make one. Until you actually play the class, I think few will actually buy that they're overpowered. I've played nothing but bards and priests. That being said, bards are easier to kill than priests, no matter the group you're in. They are a support class, and function primarily as such.

lawl.

If I played a bard I'd have killed 90% of the pbase while solo by now.

A) You could only do that if you abused the code.

B) I can take any class and kick the crap out of the bard. It takes planning on most classes (melee classes are easy). Bards have weaknesses that can be exploited by most classes.

Seriously, if a centaur can be a bard so can a griffon.

Originally centaurs were not going to be offered as bards. It took some well-placed arguments to convince Dulrik. From a roleplay perspective, bards are about songs & stories more than they are about dancing. Centaurs in particular have a lot of history in SK as lorekeepers and story-tellers- conceptually I've always thought they're naturals as bards. But then again, I think wisdom should be almost as important for bards as dexterity.

I think it would be really interesting to open up some more race/class options all across the board. Variety is the spice of life. You'll still see the vast majority of bards as elves & half-elves & humans just because of the stats, but opening up all races allows for a lot more RP variety and new character concepts.

But please, no wimping. I hate to see this discussion go that route.

Convince Dulrik to put in Centaur Hellions and Paladins then!

I can't even get a reply from him on my thread. :(

I think the best part about bards is that everyone wants to be your friend, that helps a lot with the free eq and training.

Are you sure about that? Maybe I didn't think of them as being a good fit at first, but perhaps you were the one to point out how well they fit into the modern mythology of centaurs. For instance, I think there were several centaur bards to be found in CS Lewis's Narnia.

There's a griffon bard in Alice In Wonderland, if placement in modern mythology is all it takes.

Positive. At the time you were more focused on making sure dwarves had good enough charisma to make viable bards. And you had a hard time with the same dancing-with-hooves thing. Most of the "gifts" that centaurs got when I was on the immstaff came from me hounding you about them. ;)
