I realize this, however the cling goes on for quite a while afterwards, and if you're naked it can take away a huge chunk of HP like Konge said.

As it should. The total damage the it deals (initial + dot) should be more than any other non-dot spell.

I agree, however magma spray as it is, is already the most powerful damage spell, as long as the target doesn't have resist elements. By making the dot immune to MP, we're in effect talking about one magma spray knocking off 50-80% health from the target.

That's a little excessive in my opinion.

It is only the most powerful spell if you are completely naked. If you are not, it is currently a far cry from Harm. If it is changed as suggested, it will most likely be on par for total output in damage.

Well the new change would make every virtually naked for the dot part. So sure, even if you only take 15% from the initial blast, due to MP or whatever, you're still going to tick away 25-50% more damage.

That's quite a bit for one casting.

Comment from Dulrik: I can conceive that I would change magma spray so that the cling damage is not affected by MP. I could also conceive giving a 1 tick warning before an elemental returns home.

Make it so, #1.

Yes, but that is over a very long period of time. If they survive the pk, there should be a cleric nearby to help out. With all of the instant death spells, I think this is a minor issue.

In my opinion magma spray should be completely wimped and another elemental based spell used as a one-target most powerful one.

Why?

Because the most damaging spell in the game shouldn't be based on an element that is a weakness of a race. It should be based on ice or earth maybe, to make it equally hurt everyone.

Just my two copper.

I would rather resist elements, summon a fire elemental, and spam fireball on the room than cast magma against a PC.

I'd say add an Elemental Mastery skill and pick your element that gets the added perk of more damage and harder to resist with some buff an elemental of that element, but as fire is the only top end damage spell for warlocks, it's kind of useless. Not to mention Wind/Earth have pretty much no spells in their favor for it either.

Now wouldn't a Talent tree come in handy?

Warlocks only get one spell that could be considered wind elemental and that is fly.

Create spring is also their only water elemental spell.

Come to think of it, I don't think that wind and water are even damage types in the game.

Not only are there major annoyances one needs to deal with while playing the class, it is also out of concept.
