When I create a character I never have an organization specifically in mind. I have a character with a personality and a set of beliefs. The character then grows and changes depending on what he or she experiences in game. I have been in three separate organizations. Each time, I was sought out by the leaders because of my RP. I have never asked to join.

Whenever I give advice to new players to the game, I suggest that they do just that. This does not exclude you. Make your character. Have fun with them. Don't worry about if you're going to get asked to join anything. You can be a complete character without membership to any playergroup. If you do get asked, take it as a compliment and then react to the invitation as your character would.

As others have said, there is no coded limit to cabal numbers. But, a player leader may do anything within the bounds of RP. A player leader is never bound to accept someone. You are never guaranteed a spot in a cabal or tribunal (or faith as previously pointed out). A character can live out his or her life without ever joining one. When I started playing, I was told to expect never to join one.

This isn't a standard held just to new players. Every character is judged by the leader of the cabal. It is up to them whether they will accept you based on your RP and their RP (again, not any code).

Any attitude you perceive, is just that: your perception. I assure you, we're just trying to answer your question. It's a common problem on the internet where we interject our own attitudes onto others. You're frustrated, so you're probably viewing our replies as "condescending" because of this.

I can't make my answer any clearer than this. If you need specific clarification on something, however, please do ask.

I've seen the OOC conversation that supal33t had and I must say that I wouldn't mind giving that person a couple of slaps in the face. Not only did he give some misinformation, but he placed the fault on supal33t for "playing the wrong class". This also came from a character of prominent standing from whom I expect much better. Personally, I don't recommend going OOC in the game for any reason. But if someone who identifies themselves as a newbie does ask you for OOC help such as this, you should try to be an ambassador for the game AND do it in an IC manner. It's the best way to teach expectations.

As far as cabals go, the facts are these:
1. There is no membership cap or class cap. There was a couple of times where I encouraged a cabal to drop excess members, but that was because they had a ton of inactive people and I don't think there should be any expectation that you can stay a member forever with no activity.

2. Help cabal gives you the gist of how cabals work. "Membership in these organizations is often by invitation only, as the cabals are typically on the lookout for qualified applicants, although those wishing to join may seek out known members of a cabal to express their interest." If you don't know any members, either because you are new or because the cabal is particularly secretive, you will need to make some guesses and try to hang out with people who you suspect might be members.

3. Don't give up trying to get into a faction until you've definitively been told 'no' by their leader. They are certainly allowed to tell you no, but they should be doing that for IC reasons, not because of any quotas. If they do tell you no, you will have to adjust your concept or go factionless while waiting for the leadership to change. Being steadfast in your concept is likely to be a big plus in your favor the next time around.

GL I understand if they want to keep the number of their cabal in check. No biggie, but to tell someone, if and only if the RP supported it, how numbers of classes is even IC. Class names themselves, for the most part with notable exceptions, are pretty much OOC info. People don't go around just calling themselves scouts, they call themselves woodsmen, trackers, etc. Like I said, there are exceptions: paladins, necromancers, shamans, maybe warlocks. In any case, keeping tabs on what class is certain people are, and limiting them in a cabal is OOC.

You should be careful though, supaleet. If people don't like something about your character oocly, they'll often invent, sometimes with immortal approval, very tenuous and transparent IC reasons to keep you out.
