All I know is that my minotaur barbarian with max Con and several hp trains in full tanso would fight five of those NPCs (one by one) and would then need to rest because he'd be at about 30% hp. The NPCs would have 3 attacks each round, and they would do a lot of damage. On the up side they don't seem to have a lot of hp and do give good experience.

He was level 17 at the time and the NPCs would consider a perfect match for him.

If I am revealing some prohibited IC info you're welcome to delete, or edit my post, I am just telling you my experiences.

Wild fighting and fury are also higher level skills. The area in question is listed as Initiate to Apprentice. Try to keep that in mind when giving advice.

Berserk and spamming bash are not.

If the concern is just counterstrike, maybe it didn't need to be changed. Only higher level barbarian NPCs have counterstrike trained, the same as PCs.

Something I've learned is to never ever listen to Muktar about anything. Nice guy, but wrong almost 100% of the time.

I don't know how many NPC races have the griffon twin-attack self-defense but with brawling being so low-level, 3 natural attacks per round can be a bit overwhelming.

I'm sure I'm a bit out of place here but I'd suggest someone consider NPC size/strength and fighting ability when deciding whether the NPC is a barb or merc, especially at the lower levels. Expert and above, sure, leave those barbs there I guess (although I wouldn't complain if they were turned into mercs).

Classes that are good for non-boss npcs: mercs, scouts, shamans, priests (non-harm wielding), paladin (non-bog), hellion (non-hellfire), rogues (I don't know about swashie because I haven't seen many).

All other classes make good bosses.
