This has been bugging me for a while.

A skin that is flagged as scale or tanso or iron or leather, etc., is it actually that material type, or just skin that is as hard as as that material, that requires a tailor/blacksmith to shape and repair?

Perhaps I did not ask correctly.

I know that it says made of mithril/scale/tanso/etc. for mechanical reasonings, but does that then correlate to, "Hey, that snake must really, really like iron!" or does it just simply mean that the skin is as tough as said material, but still a skin with the mechanical additions to enforce armor2 restrictions?

I think this is open to interpretation, honestly. I've always gone with the personal belief that, for mechanical reasons, a mithril skin is made of mithril, but it could be just acceptable to think that the skin is merely as tough as mithril.

Either way, it's just as effective. It may be interesting to speculate but it really makes no difference.

I just suspend disbelief and decide that bronze skin is skin made of bronze.

Considering a skin of a flying serpent says "This skin is size xxxx and made of bronze" I'm going to assume that the skin is actually made of bronze.

In the cast of the mithril lion, it says a mithril hide and it is a mithril hide. The area they are in for such makes sense.

The skin of the flying serpent is made of bronze??? It should be scale unless somewhere in the description of the NPC it describes them as having a bronze coloring.

One of the reasons for the armor type could very well be that scale would be too high a quality for lowbies and the brass is able to be lower levels.

P.S. whoever changed stuff to 'grades' is just awesome! I grinned so much at the 'low-grade' mithril. :) :) :)
