As far as I know, the original keywords were retrieved through a rather complicated quest that used to be top secret. The place was never intended to be an Adept area, it was just implemented with the aid of an old Adept character and therefor the information passed on (as is natural) to that cabal first. When the keywords became common knowledge and everyone got to use one of the most powerful areas in the game, the whole thing quickly degraded to a total joke.

Shutting it down seems like the easiest option, but I'd like to see it reopened and changed so that characters have to be flagged in order to use it. I know it requires a lot of effort, but a web-quest that reveals the new passwords would be ideal. If said quest is not done properly and people still manage to acquire the passwords, they should have to deal with some sort of IC penalty.

Flagging people is actually a great idea. You could have a long and ardous quest to get the keywords and upon knowing them get flagged. Anyone who tries to use the keywords without doing the quest (thus by OOC knowledge) would get something like...

area echo - The feeling of a nail being repeatedly hammered into your skull grows increasingly stronger as the moments pass by...
Area echo - Blood begins to seep from every orifice in your body.
Room echo - Reality contracts and expands at the same time in directions your limited mortal brain is incapable of processing.

You are blind!

pecho (for everyone) - The booming voice shatters your ear drums!
You are deaf!
pecho- Unseen terrors shred your flesh to tatters, devouring all of your physical form.
You are dead!
(at this point your corpse and everything on it is just annihalated. Full junk loot)
You briefly feel your soul sink towards the river, but horrors beyond your keen grip at your spirit and you feel your essence being torn to shreds by inumerable teeth, lessening your soul.
(level curse)

Room echo - Reality begins to fold back to it's normal pattern as the Horror of Infinite Corruptions returns to the outer beyond, bloated by it's meal of flesh and soul.

Area Echo - Like a candle being snuffed, the screams from every throat for miles ends at the same time. People and animals alike, foaming bloody froth from their mouths, begin to recover from the reverie of madness, some slower than others. Many did not even realize they had been screaming...
