When I played my last barb I noticed that if my health wasn't at 100% my chances for a successful fury were MUCH higher.

I tried to keep herbs on me that did cause light/serious to hurt myself a little before trying to berserk/fury.

Oh come on! why the hell should a barb need to do that! It doesn't even guarantee it will work, so now I'm just going into a fight at less than 100%! Should I also twirl around, do a little dance, flash gang signs, count out loud from 10 to 1 or some other non-barb related nonsense to fire a skill that I worked my balls off to Master to actually work when I use it?

Come on. Just make it work.

Because fury is a skill a barb uses when in trouble.
From personal experience the Fury success rate is much like the taunt success rate. In that an injured target for taunt has less chance of it landing, the more injured the target is the less chance taunt will land.

Fury is much the same, as the more the barb is injured the higher the success rate. Which is why you get healed also when you berserk/fury.

Imagine a barb standing around, talking to someone trying to pick a fight. Being a barb he thinks he is a top notch contender and doesn't need to use his full strength (aka Fury) to beat someone in battle. But when in battle realises oh [REDACTED] this guy is tougher then he looks, his rage overtakes him and plows the [REDACTED] into the ground.

I vote for Fury to stay as is.

Fury is too powerful to be given a higher chance to succeed. It's as Sypher said, a much higher bonus skill compared to specialize but it has to be used at the right time.

After all, wise men said it better.

Code:
SVEN'S FATHER   I was a Berserk for King Harald Fairhair...
SVEN            You went berserk...
SVEN'S FATHER   I went berserk in every battle I ever fought for King Harald...
SVEN            So did your father...
SVEN'S FATHER   So did my father and his father before him.
SVEN            But it's a responsibility...
SVEN'S FATHER   But it's a responsibility being a Berserk.
SVEN            I must only let the red rage...
SVEN'S FATHER   You must only let the red rage take hold of you in the thick of
                battle.
SVEN (losing his temper) I KNOW! I'VE HEARD IT ALL I THOUSAND TIMES!

*Sven destroyes a nearby hut with a couple of headbutts*

SVEN'S FATHER   No no... you'll never  make  a  Berserk.  If you let it out now
you'll have nothing left for battle...

Sven's father is indeed a wise man.

I realize the drawbacks of having to fury during battle (bash; bash; bash, etc.) but that's the way the skill was intended. You can take a low probability of success and try it before combat or you can have a higher probability of success and hope your opponent misses a bash.

Barbs would be too powerful if they could succeed fury all the time.

I agree with the langauge thing though. Why not just make languages exempt from the skills that are affected by berserk/fury? Don't think this would affect game balance much and would allow people to continue to RP with it. You could a) give them some kind of slurred speech like being drunk currently does, b) lessen the effect of berserk/fury on your language abilities, or c) get rid of the language decrease altogether (does wearing heavy armor affect your languages as a light or cloth armor character? It shouldn't.)

Fury does need some tweaking, I hated how much I failed with Uthaur and Jarold both being masters of the skill.

Yeah, this seems to be overly complicated and a completely round about way of addressing what the real problem is.

Berserk/Fury shouldn't be affected by bash lag, they should either auto fire at a set percentage, or just be useable whenever the hell you want with the corresponding failure chances. The decision should come down to higher failure chance and no healing for better damage from the start or higher success rate, and healing for less damage until used.

I think being smashed onto my [REDACTED] or tripped would [REDACTED] me off enough to go berserk.

How about barbs get an auto-fire of berserk + fury whenever they are bashed, but they can't make fury fire any other way?

Haha.

Snuffles I wonder what you would propose if you hated the class. It is the biggest nerf I can think of for the barbs. What did the poor class do to you? :-?
