How should a shaman react to religion. Is it a personal choice to just ignore them, tell them there are no gods(which is proved wrong easily enough) or accept the gods. I take it it will not quite be correct to become a follower?

Just some questions

Shamans, like all classes at the beginning, are officially panthiest. Or at least by code. Panthiest means you accept and honor multiple gods. A shaman can devote him or herself to a god but at the cost of the loss of many shaman spells.

Athiests are fools in this game. Multiple gods can and do appear. Accept there are many gods and respect the gods as you wish. Or whichever gods you wish. But know, a shaman becoming flagged as a follower loses spells.

On my shaman, Ishiye, I had a little tutorial going on when mentoring people. These are of course just my own interpretations, but she'd teach them about the three cardinal ways of paying tribute.

a) ancestral praise
To praise the ancestors of one's own bloodline, or the ancestors in general, recognising their value in creating a bond between the past and the future. To not become too ensnared in the mysteries of that past, due to the danger of misjudging the present.

b) totemic praise
To pay tribute to a single spirit, symbolised by an animalistic totem or to pay tribute to a god-spirit, in particular its totem-form (bear for Sargas, raven for Algorab, chameleon for Thuban etc.) It is not you who choose your totem, it is the totem that selects you, as a vessel, depending on your character qualities. There is a wonderful, IC quest for this. Look around or ask other shamans for details.

c) pantheism
To pay tribute to all spirits or god-spirits, recognising each one of them for their individual worth but also for their interaction (and the necessity of such) with each other. To hold none of them in higher esteem than the other.

I'd usually advise a mix of those three forms of praise. Naturally, you could go with something entirely different, or you could strictly follow one of the three, refusing to accept the other two. On a shaman, seeing as how the entire spellset evolves around the spirits, it'd be terribly difficult to justify playing an atheist (not only a Godless person, but one lacking faith and/or religion in general.) My sorceror chose to RP that way, having a genuine hate for the Gods and refusing to accept that they had any impact at all on her and her life. In the end, it is all a matter of personal choice. I do not think there are any set guidelines for you to follow.

Oof, I don't want to babble. Hope it helps a bit.

Lolth is right. There are no strict guidelines. See what best fits your character. And since I'm not a fan of knowing the 100% of your rp/story when your character begins, you can decide it in the process from the experience of your shaman living in Pyrathia. For example my barb, used to see the gods as tricksters. One day they would be there to help and the next they would leave his land (ayamao) to suffer from the eastern/northern attacks. Only the spirits of his ancestors would answer his call every single time.

Qft. I chose (or you can say my character was chosen from) a totem that had to do with protection and strength or something similar due to his class/tribunal leadership status. In any case it enriched my rp and props to the imm who made the quest. I think it was wert. Wasn't it?

There are shamans in the game that can and will answer questions.

Counter-advice: Don't listen to Syn.

There are plenty of shamans that will reply to people. Syn is beyond unlucky

Doesn't this kind of disqualify you from making any statements about who might be about?
