Just to skew things on topic slightly, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some sort of no-delete flag for characters that they could set themselves, just have it do everything that the code currently does ahead of time, and have auto-delete check for the flag. Yeah, it'd be added onto the list of things to do but I can't see this as a bad thing.

All items = junked
All leader flags = removed
no delete flag added

Any downsides to something like this, other than it taking away from other things that could be done instead?
