Hrm,

The really only opinion I have after plunking with the other 2 classes after GMing a priest - as much as all 3 'suffer' without spells, the priest/hellion can manage at a decent clip, even solo, to level well into the mid-upper levels. An apprentice priest without spells will heavily be relying on an active playerbase to get into a party/spellcast up (or the elusive pole mace from behind a pet).

It would be interesting to see a couple of experienced players with the time to log hours/play combinations with vs without using the spells in the 3 classes for an actual comparison.

Any one of those classes can GM without being in a religion, some may take longer than others, but it can be done. Both Paladins and Hellions can be done without religion easily, Priests not so much, but if Jada can get to high mentor without being in a religion on a priest, I'm sure anyone can!(zing)!

and at the same time... I see in the Newbie forum priests are often recommended as good starting characters. While good social characters/most likely to be contacted/wanted around, actually getting a new player up in the ranks should they pick a less active faith, or if they're in the wrong time zone can be daunting.

Some thoughts (These ideas should not be considered as a package. They're separate ideas.)
1 - bump a priest's chr stat upon creation. Don't increase the max. Just give their current out of blocks a boost.
(2 - was thinking of some adjustment to the experience curve. Then thought the chr boost would accomplish this with a lot less pain and coding.)
(3 - rerererevisit the pole mace, or some quests around to get them. Don't think this is going to hold much water though.)
4 - the proposed bump in having spells available to non-followers through apprentice levels. For all 3 cleric types, or just priests...?
5 - go revisit the profess idea I'd come up with. The root cause of the problem really is that seekers and HF are missing their initial meeting, and seekers are waiting for longer to even have the opportunity to be invested. ;)

I am not at all interested in the profess idea so my disinterest may show thru in my idea of profess usage, dunno.

Anyway, the F0-F3 would need changed to F0-F4, with F1 being those who profess (not professors, they're F0 permanently). I would be amenable to allowing priests the new F1 status.

What comes with F1 status? Init spells at 150% mana cost and 75% potency and App spells at 200% mana cost and 50% potency. And a religion flag only an imm can remove.

Profess (religion)
Are you certain you want to? It will become permanent. Read the help files on profess. (Y)es, (N)o, (R)ead the help file.
