There's a flag that prevents ethereal characters from passing through an entrance of any type. Assuming it is set, it should be preventing you from passing through a murder hole. Please bug the exact location of the problem, if you think they shouldn't be able to get through. I believe all HQ entrances should be set that way. Otherwise it is up to the builder.

Meh, potions got nerfed. I haven't had the chance to check them out yet though.
