So you don't like taking my advice, because you don't want to put forth the effort to learn new leveling areas? I've played characters that have completely avoided fighting casters because I didn't feel confident in my ability to keep the caster down.

But regardless, you're reading what I'm saying the wrong way. My very first character that I played ended up sitting alone blind a lot of the time while training (Dang necros under Morea.) In fact, I even got edrained by the mummies under Morea and lost XP one time, and I don't want to count the amount of times that I got confused and massacred myself on ten giants. That was pretty annoying, but it gave me a very healthy respect for fighting casters, especially necros. In fact, I even thought about complaining, but honestly, it reinforces the fact that this game requires -tactics-. Things aren't going to be easy just because some people don't like a challenge. When you're leveling, you're (usually) killing other sentient beings, and they're not just there to roll over and pop out XP like some sort of loot pinata.

But you touched on a very important thing in your post.

Yeah, I've spent a lot of time playing WoW, where even death typically takes no more than five minutes to recover from. On the flipside, killing someone means nothing more than a few more honor points. There are dualities to everything in SK: Making one thing harder (for example, leveling) makes other things less impressive (for example, getting to GM.)

But here's the reason I quit WoW. Blizzard is indeed very interested in "letting you play the game they've made," and with little "downtime" indeed (Although I spent countless hours farming materials for single pieces of equipment.) but Shattered Kingdoms not only invites you to play the game, but also to -shape- it yourself. Things that happen in SK should be taken ICly, and what you do actually changes the game for yourself and others. Why the character you're playing who is obviously having a hard time leveling against casters hasn't looked for a more suitable place to level is beyond me, unless you're going about it the wrong way and avoiding RP like the plague until you hit higher levels.

That's very nice, but I still don't see why you're so against anything that would allow someone a chance to cure blindness after being blinded.
Is it the massive wimp to combat for Necromancers, hellions and sorcerors? The fact that people should know better, and at all times have a cure potion/herb in the inventory that they might never use?
I'd like a definitive argument against, rather than just Real-Players-don't-need-it-so-why-should-you?
It's not as if any of the suggested changed would even do much to combat. Lag time before you can get a specific item out of your pack while in the middle of a battle? Yeah, that'd likely hurt. The ability to contact people on the who list? Wow, that'll seriously affect combat, but only for those not in a tribunal or a cabal, since they can already call for help.

Actually, it is not only those classes you mentioned. Shamans would be DEVASTATED, since blindness is one of those few spells that can make them formidable in melee fight.

I am afraid that it finally all comes down to this. It is a GAME, and as a game, it has levels of difficulty in some things, if you want to achieve some goals. If you feel the need to be pampered, you need a therapist, not a game. :P

Do you want to be able to grab things from your backpack while blinded?

Add a lag of about 2 ticks or so and I'm fine with it, and be paralyzed in that time so you won't fight back if you attempt to do it during fighting.

Although I still believe if you get hit by blindness and you don't have a way to cure it in your inventory, you should be stuck there. Same as getting put to sleep or getting charmed from an NPC during levelling, you just wait a few ticks for it to pass.

I'd say a little less that a tick. It's blindness, not dismemberment. Unless you've got two seriously deformed hands you're not going to spend two hours rummaging (which is more or less what two ticks amount to). I wouldn't compare it to charm and sleep.

2 ticks at least actually to prevent abuse.

And still none prevents you from keeping cure blindness herbs/potions/pills in your inventory and just eat/quaff them and see instantly.

This can be added only to remove frustration from newbies who have no idea that they can keep things in their inventory.

And why can't you compare it to sleep btw? It's not that sleep is a high level spell anyway and it's far more devastating getting put to sleep while levelling than getting blinded.

Yes, but sleep is a concentration spell that prevents any action unless you're released or attacked.

You can still kill things while blinded anyway and your levelling is not interrupted if you are careful and know what you are doing.

But when you are put to sleep you are stuck there, unable to do anything at all until some ticks pass by and the spell is released.

So once again, why can't you compare blindness to sleep anyway?

Sleep is by far more annoying than blindness during levelling.
