Yes, we all can agree that a warrior with insane eq will beat a caster with insane eq.

We can also all agree that casters are harder to pk than warriors, especially due to having etherealform access at all times.

We can also agree that casters can kill 90% of the mud instantly, and warriors do not have that capability.

Where do you get that last? I've played plenty of casters, and they're not that impressive without the insane eq you're talking about. And you say the warrior wins on that battlefield as well.

Spells can do lots of great things, but they take time, and a warrior's automatic damage is going along fine in the meantime. Unless a caster gets off a battle-winning spell (which not all casters have), or is a warlock facing warriors ill-equipped to handle an elemental, the warrior has a strong advantage.

Think of this less as a caster vs. warrior power struggle, and more as a way to make PK a better experience. Combat should take longer, and there should be more tactical options for fighting. There are sacrifices caster classes can be asked to make: fewer super-items, and penalties to effective death-spells compared to minor maledictions. But lower base damage is an obvious sacrifice that warriors should be called to make.

There are plenty of NPCs that load level 40+ instakill scrolls that are unlimited (because they crumble upon logout, every few hours, etc.) these are extremely easy to get as a caster if you just look around. These are instakills on 90% of the mud.

If this is true why does your necro take the time to have 15+ wraiths which in turn means your going the 'melee damage' route. As opposed to just grabbing one of theses 'tons' of scrolls?

Because when I pk I like to instakill people inside of their cabal HQ's, and you can't do that solo when you have scrolls. You also can't hurt people with scrolls when you are ethereal, which I like to be able to do.

I also have logs posted of me instakilling with scrolls. And the 'time' required to make 15+ wraiths and 10 wights is about 15 minutes, which I don't mind sparing for the sake of being able to beak into cabal hqs and be freaking scary looking for the next 45 minutes.

This thread gets a bump, for how [REDACTED] ridiculous it is, and how much of an idiot you have to be to think melee characters are better than spellcasters.

One, stop being a [REDACTED] and cursing/borderline flaming in Gameplay. Why don't you go back to whining about whatever character class you're currently playing until you delete a week later.

Two, it seems to be agreed upon to a point that melee damage needed tweaked because it was, as well as spell damage.

Be constructive, make a valid argument, or GTFO.

Gilgon, while you are completely right, generally speaking though momentary massive damage is generally weaker than consistent high damage. That is true only because most spellcasters have lower damage per round than melee people, except during the rounds during their massive dmg.

Time for another re-evaluation: Now that the double round assist is apparently fixed, less NPC NPCs being created/charmed with wands/scrolls and with resisted spells now doing more damage against over-enchanted suits, where are we at for melee/magic balance now?

Magic is still low due to the fact that, even with reduced save effects, the damage-over-time ratio is still way low compared to melee's damage-over-time ratio.

Given the concentration time necessary for spells that ultimately don't do a lot of damage (sometimes, even when completely unsaved against), melee is still dishing three or four times the amount of damage casting does in the same length of time.

Before people jump all over me, no, I'm not suggesting a caster should be able to go head-to-head with a warrior unprotected and survive, but given a pet/charm/etc their meat shields should be able to last long enough to give the caster a fighting chance.

IMO, the thing is...Every caster, except Warlock, has something they can do besides just deal damage...That's all a warrior does, deal damage. A caster can sleep/petrify/blind/charm/wtfever.
