As for charm, you can still send tells to people and have them summon you or come help you.

You send me a tell that you're charmed and you want me to help you get uncharmed and I'll send up an OOC prayer that you did it. That action is cursable. ANY who try to cheat their way out of charm should be heavily cursed. That is all.

Edit: How about we make it so charmees cannot TELL or REPLY unless ORDERED to do so by their charmers?

Charms should not be able to do anything but say, sayto, emote, pemote unless ordered to do so by their charmer.

I don't know about searching through your backpack while blind, but you can't even remove stuff that's IN YOUR HANDS while blind, and that is freaking stupid.

Yes, many things about blindness are incredibly stupid. Blind people aren't totally helpless. And they do know what they have in their hands usually. At least well enough to drop them.
As for no tells while charmed...
Quote:
A pale green-skinned siren exclaims to you 'Now that you've come to me, I'm not letting you go!'
A pale green-skinned siren walks to you and puts her arms around you.
A pale green-skinned siren whispers something into your ears quietly.
A pale green-skinned siren glows with mystical energy!
Isn't a pale green-skinned siren just so nice?
You now follow a pale green-skinned siren.
A pale green-skinned siren says 'I'll let you go once I get bored with you.'
A pale green-skinned siren moves herself to position (22:M2).

That'd really suck in a situation like that, since she renews it. An experienced player might know one of the ways to get away, but if you're there alone (which you might be) and if you're a relatively new player (which you might also be if you're there), you'd be pretty screwed.
This is just an example of a situation where sending a tell might be very nice, even if it's somewhat bad rp.

You get charmed, you do not try to get out of it. You don't want to. That's what charm is. You try to get out of the charm and you deny the charm as anything more than mechanical in a roleplay world. Such an act, no matter what it is, is a cursable offense. And as far as I'm concerned, two strikes and you're out, kiddo.

She says she'll let you go when she gets bored, and NPCs do let you go after a short amount of time. You should have played against them back when they never let you go unless they ran out of mana. :P

Really? When I was there she instantly renewed it once she let go. Maybe it was just bad luck.

The charm spell is coded to let you go after awhile. If she instantly renewed it, that may be a faulty script.

Considering all spell scripts attached to NPCs were supposed to be removed years ago when classes were added to npcs, I'm surprised that "it's a bug" wasn't the immediate response.

That was the original view of the immstaff, but I am pretty sure this is no longer the case. Spell scripts are _everywhere_ in the mud, when I buglogged every spell script I came across for the first few days of the change I was told by an immortal to stop wasting my time because they weren't going to be changed.
