While I agree with this, this has been hashed out before many times in the past (I even started this thread once). D has already said no to either e-parry or shield block. They are suppose to be closer to casters and not fighters. Yes, I also brought up the point that they get most of the advanced attack stuff but nothing to keep them alive.

This thread may now die.

Bards should receive 4th attack and dual wield.

That just reminded me of back when there was the big discussion about swashies, and they almost got third attack(it was in the discussion at least!), instead of finesse.

Without having read the thread, bards probably should get shield block.

However there are still several benefits that make using a shield worthwhile even if you cannot block with it. Warlocks/necros/sorcs should all use shields imo.

I'd be okay with it, but it'd have to be limited to small shields. Tower shields/kite shields would get in the way.

Bards would be too good if they got shield block or eparry.

I think the main problem with their defense is that a good chunk of it is tied to an active skill. Not only that, but it's an effect that you automatically lose when prone, which makes bards even more screwed by a bash or trip. You also have to forgo this defensive bonus if you want to use certain melee skills.

My suggestion: change the defense and evasion bonuses from dance into passive effects. Active dancing affects one too many things when it's tied to defensive ability. This change will make it purely a choice between boosting songs or using melee skills like trip and dirt kick.

And yes, I know there's a certain other dance-type skill that sets a precedent for passive bonuses.

Eparry won't make you a super tank, neither would shield block.

Unless you consider rogues to be super tanks, considering they get parry and shield block.

Though I think the average merc or barb can 2 or 3 round a rogue.

I've seen Cannibal's/Mitches/Ruud's/Tragonis's rogues outtank merks with just spirit aura.

Shield block would make a super tank, imagine shield block/parry and songs of sleep? too much.

I never used spirit aura on Joran. He was an invested Sargas follower from the beginning.
