Bad idea, for reasons already stated. It isn't difficult to say "durr, I wonder whether this is armor or a weapon," and it isn't necessary to merge them to make mastering the spell easier either.

I can understand someone saying this idea is not needed, but saying it is horrible or that it sucks or that it is a bad idea seems a bit much to me. And the flaming is more than unwarranted. Save it for GD.

Personally I am lukewarm on the idea. I am going to vote that I do like the idea, because I do, but I certainly would not shed any tears if it was deemed unnecessary or too hard to code.

Remember guys, in a game like this a flow of ideas is a very good thing. We should be encouraging it.

Well, it would cost less xp to train them, true. However, having them as two seperate spells gives you more opportunity to get XP ticks every time you improve each spell. IMO, more benefits than losses by keeping them seperate.

Oh, and the code thing. That too.

Edit: Also, if you train them when you're supposed to or later (read: not earlier than the status they're set at), then you won't be experiencing much of an XP loss in the first place.

Wow, P40. For a man of your age you seem to have some serious issues and certainly lacking any sign of maturity. I wonder why RL makes you so aggravated on a forums. Fail too much?

I don't see the need for it.

I think Fridgeraider hit the nail on th head on this issue. Enchant weapon only lands +hit and +damage, merging the two would cause extra coding to make it to that weapons only land +hit/damage instead of fortitude/mp/etc.
