Can someone please tell me why you can not cleave with a scythe?

I..think we had this conversation a few years back. The outcome was that cleaving is a very quick way of hitting someone, with alot of force, and being able to easily rip your weapon out of them, all in one more. You, in essence, cannot hook someone with a scythe, cut through them, and pull back your weapon. If I am not mistaken, Dulrik didn't ever consider it as a option when someone brought it to his attention.

A war scythe is a bit different. And is designed to cleave. Maybe Dulrik should just make scythe and war-scythe two different things then if he's not going to allow a weapon to do what it was made to do.

Scythes should cleave. Period. I don't know if it's a balance issue why they don't, but regarding their type, they should cleave.

It is because Dulrik doesn't want someone rolling a female hellion and calling herself Lady Harken.

You'd be the one to do that too, huh? :o

It would work perfect...You don't even need to roll a new char.

A regular scythe would not be seen as a cleaving weapon. Its motion is side to side and at an angle that does not promote great force. A war scythe seems much more like a type of polearm than a scythe. It could be used to cleave, but I believe the in game scythe subtype is actually for the former idea.

That link, while definitely accurate, just blew my visual of a scythe out of the water. My visual was a one-hander crescent-shaped blade with a handle, no pole attached. But still used to mow down plantlife.

You're thinking of a sickle or kama

My concept of cleave is basically swinging your weapon as hard as you can, to try and cut someone in half. Looks like a scythe would be good for that. =/
