I know that training CON adds to both fortitude and HP. If I at level 1 make one CON train my HP will go from f.x. 100% to 80%, which means that X number of hit points was added to my HP pool. The reason the percentage gab is so large is because of the low HP's at low levels. If I at level 45 make one CON train my HP will go from 100%->100% because of a large HP pool.

So here is the question:

Does a high CON make you absorb damage better or something like that, otherwise one might find it a complete waste to train? Lets say I have saved 8 trains and wish to put them in CON and my HP only changes from 100%->98% then the points might be more useful in for instance WIS or DEX.

Any comments?

I'm not sure I have enough information to answer your question. Each train in HP grants a set amount of HP, regardless of level. If you're training HP, it really helps early on and wont be a noticeable difference at the far end of the leveling scheme. It is the same number of points.

Training CON doesn't necessarily add to your HP. If you have extremely low CON, training it will reduce the penalty you receive for low CON. If you have a high CON, increasing it adds to the bonus for having high CON. I don't know that training CON in the middle levels will necessarily affect the HP score. These bonuses or penalties are static numbers of HP based on the CON score, not varying by level.

Training either can keep you alive longer, but I really don't know what kind of things check for CON to know if its better to train it instead of just training HP. Is it more useful in WIS or DEX? That's going to be more of a preference thing.

Well, when one trains con or wears a con-affecting item your HP percentage goes down... so that would imply it gives you more HP rather than just a "bonus" right? Or is CON a % based modifier to HP or something? I'm now confused.

Does that mean that an elf with con healthy is less durable that another elf with con durable even though they had the same HP pool?

Achernar had it pretty much spot on.

At around 15 CON I think it is, you start getting bonuses to hp which grow depending on your level.
Personal experience would lead me to guess that CON also provides a slight modifier for your AC, but I'm not sure. If I am correct there though my guess would be at low CON you would receive penalties against your AC.

Training other stats really is a choice of preference.

Lets not forget a higher con helps attribute to a higher fortitude save.

In general, training constitution increases your HP pool, increases your bonus to fortitude saves and increases a few other things like HP/PE regen per tick. Specifically whether it increases any of those categories usually depends on what your current constitution already is.

On the other hand, training HP only does one thing but it's guaranteed to always get you more pure hit points than training constitution.

Due to the 12/26/08 update it should be noted that traning hp now affects hp regeneration & training pe now affects pe regeneration.

Not significantly. Perhaps if you drop 12+ trains into either, you'd see a significant difference, but as of now the difference is largely negligable.
