In my opinion, as stated before, the issue is not charm, but scrolls.

Sorcs should be powerful with cast spells.

And should we get rid of scribe? Clearly not.

So what is the problem? It's the number of high level or powerful scrolls around again. I thought that powerful scrolls were generally, with very few exceptions, stripped from the game a few years back (about the time that all staves had their number of charges lowered??).

Why have they been creeping back in? Was this a conscious decision to reverse a change made a while back?

With the minimal lag for recite, and the fact that saves just don't always work (I had ~25 wp on a GM char and got charmed by a scroll), a character should rarely be able to have more than one or two powerful scrolls. I didn't even care when the scrolls were limited and from hard to get to places. But a pile of powerful lvl 40 scrolls from Tlaxcala was a mistake.

Three different characters all wandering around with 5-10 powerful scrolls is silly. When this happens it becomes simply a matter of time until you succumb. If I put the effort in to get 35 wp as well as other resists, I should be immune to scrolls!!!

Forgive me, I was not clear. What I meant to say is prevent charm from being scribed. That way only sorcs will be using charm like how it was intented. I mean that is one of the perks of being a sorc. Now it seems like everyone that can use scrolls is charming.

I think charm is powerful enough now that its ability to be scribed could be removed. That doesn't stop it from being on wands.

Remove it from wands as well. I mean there should be certain skills that you just can't use from magical items. I believe that charm should be one of them.

Don't remove it from wands. Just make sure that there's a finite number of the wands and that they're hard to get.

Why? I mean what really is the point of that. So they can be hoarded for months on end by dickhead players like DA?

So tag the item "elite", give it an enhanced decay time and make it nonrechargeable? Or is the point of hoarding here to make sure that nobody uses it at all?

I'm fine with leaving the wands available, but making their limits more stringent. Scribing of charm adds twice as many people to the list of those who could use the skill. If its on wands, the number of classes is three. Five classes have scrolls in their capability. I'd rather the nerfing come in stages than going too far.

Nonrechargable is perfect.

Really. I think asking more than that is a bit silly, Carsetius.

My personal vote would note be to stop charm being scribable but to wimp powerful scrolls generally.

Having said that I'd rather be petrified easily than charmed easily any day of the week.
