I stumbled across one in a shop and figured I'd buy it, but I can't figure out how to use it without holding it... is it intended that you have to just be holding it the whole time you're going if you want to get any use out of it, or am I just being stupid and is there a way to use it from your inventory while blind?

I think it's probably better than a shield when I'm getting perma-dirt kicked but if someone knows better..!

Dulrik has already said that you are required to hold it if you want to use it, and are also therefore required to sacrifice shield or two-handed weapon use.

The concept just strikes me a bit.. odd.

You can quaff a potion because you can find your mouth. You should be able to dab some water in your eye. After all, you can already 'rub the dirt out of your eyes,' after a time. Mechanically, this just makes little sense. My prefernece is to be able to have your weapons/weapon shield, but there be a bit of lag involved with the application. Something perhaps that simply reduces the time you have to sit there blind.

My thought anyway. That and I haven't really seen anyone with overly positive feelings about this particular change. I have seen the item in shops, and have been not swayed to purchase them despite being dirt kicked in my own training.

It's a tool. It works like all other tools. I've already stated that I am going to be making a change to allow you to remove all while blind. This will be enough to allow you to use the eye washer tool without sacrificing a hand.

*giggles* Yeah. Just exposing yourself to the world there, eh Dulrik? :)
Hmm, I can't see anything. I think I'll strip nekked here and.. oh.. um.. shucks.

That's why I proposed a 'there should be a lag, just less lag than waiting for you to rub the dirt out.' Aw well. The remove all may be a functional improvement, but it just doesn't quite make sense.

I hereby approve the use of eye washers by women.

But not shovels, which are tools. Those don't need to be held to be used, and this was actually a feature you were "bragging" about at one point shortly after shovels became necessary.

You can use it without holding it . . . you just need to be able to see to do so, rendering that moot. I would love if tools became like vials, something you can recognize the feel of while blind. Without that, at least being able to strip will solve the problem.

Although a "remove all <wear-location>", such as "remove all hand" would be preferable.

Even with the current inconvenience, before I gave mine away, I went without a shield to take advantage of it, and if I get around to buying another, I'll do so again. I hate dirt, and I enjoy having a solution to that.

Agreed. But not instantaneous. Less lag than acutally being dirt kicked, but still an advantage to spend the money and have the things vs. not having them available at all.

Splitting hairs: a bit of lag to tool usage and/or a bit of lag to weapon/shield removal may accomplish the intended 'price to pay' for using the tool.
