Alright, I'm still dying a lot and once I was able to solve the riddle, I've reincarnated and now I am at the river of death again and I've LOST myself in the river...I am disheartened. I so suck at this game, but it is fun so far. Maybe I should just give her up and play something else but I HATE to give up a character so soon. Any advice?

Play more cautiously. I trained myself to not die to NPCs by reincarnating nearly every time I died to 'punish' myself for it.

Hey, if you need any help, feel free to Y!IM me at j3nnb0 or PM me here. I can help you out, or contact my character Faerti IC.

I die a lot too, but the best way to get life is to ask a priest (type who, look for someone with priest/healer in their title, and tell them your situation.)

This game is hard to get used to, and some of us NEVER stop dying all the time, but I know others in the game who can train all the way up to GM without dying once.

I reincarnated again and I'll try to be more careful. I just want to EXPLORE too much I guess yet. I am playing an OFF sort of character so I'm not sure who would want to be around her yet. I appreciate all the help so far and I for one am glad for the forumns for that fact.

This game has a *huge* learning curve. It's tough to minimize it since there is so much involved. If you are having fun now, keep pressing on. Once you get the hang of it, you'll have more fun.

I think at least some priests (mine among them) would res a young character without worrying about aura. It's never come up, but if someone was really young, I might res them even if they were subject to racial emnity. (With the proviso that they need to go home RIGHT after that.)

It's too difficult when you're young and don't know anyone to res you, there aren't many priests on, and you are stuck in the River for ages. It might not be the best roleplay to res young characters cross-aura, but it definitely makes the game more playable, and I would think more fun for everyone. So don't be afraid to ask, and don't reincarnate unless you really have no other option. That level doesn't seem like much at first, but it all adds up. And I think most people are pretty lenient toward the young. (I wouldn't ask Jojo the Baby-Eating Bishop of Bath'n'Wells to res you, but probably most other priests are fair game, at least to ask.)

Remember you can use TELL in-game to any character in the realms - even if they're not the sort that might help you (wrong aura) or if they're not even a class that can, any newbie stuck in the river that needs a hand is usually given a few pointers.

Any out-of-game communication to help your character should be done very carefully and definitely as a last resort. We all need to learn the game, so I doubt you'd cross this boundary now, but it's a bad habit to fall into later on. As HELP MULTIPLAY explains, using in-game information that was learned outside the game is against the rules: you should try to learn everything in-game, as your character would. This rule does not apply to the raw mechanics of how to play ("How do I cast two-word spells?") and other information that is not part of the "in-game storyline."

Ok, I initially was confused by the river and why I wasn't offered another riddle, I waited and waited. I logged out last night in the river. I really can't ask anyone for help, I don't know them. I had a concept in mind for her and I am crusty I guess. Thank you for the input though, it helps.

You don't have to know someone to ask them for help. Just "tell faerti i need help" or any other character and they will almost assuredly lead you to someone who can help or help you themselves. It's a good way to RP and get to know people in the game.

You can ask ANYONE for help, ICly, even when you don't know them. Some of them won't help you, others will, but you can ask.

I do know how you feel, because I am very shy to just send tells to people I've never met, too. But believe me when I say, most people on this game are more than happy to help you. It gives them something to do!
