It's probably been thought of before, of course, but whatever. I'm of the mind that kick is kind of lame. Sure, there's the added damage, but it's pretty slight. So, just like spiked knuckles for the self-defense and brawling skills, we could have boots and/or horseshoes that would improve the damage output of kicking.

I'm not well-informed about the mechanics of it, but I think it doesn't sound too bad. Opinions?

Edit: Well, obviously steel toe horseshoes are kind of moronic. Maybe spiked horseshoes/boots.

I'm pretty sure wearing a character wearing boots does do more damage than kicking one kicking in his bare feet.

Oh? Hm.. I didn't know that. Does the material of boots have any bearing on how much added damage there is? Like mithril > bronze or adamantite > leather, just like protection? Because what I was thinking with my idea is that the material -would- influence this, if it doesn't already.

But anyway - and tell me if I'm wrong here - I'm pretty sure that spiked knuckles and such are specifically coded to buff self-defense/brawling skills. I was thinking that a type of shoe be implemented to do the same for kick, going a little bit beyond whatever setup there already is.

A lithe male elf is here, wielding two swords and wearing a pair of GIANT sized adamantite boots.

A lithe male elf grins at you.

I thought that would be funny...maybe not...

I've seen features similar to this in other games, where certain pieces of equipment would be flagged with the ability to give a bonus to a certain skill or spell. Mithril-tipped boots might give a +kick-damage bonus, a spiked shield gives a +bash-damage bonus, or an aura of sparkling magic gives a +colorspray-damage bonus. That sort of thing. I was under the impression that something similar to that already existed in SK, but I might be wrong.
