Sorcerers are easily one of the most powerful classes in the game without charm. Losing some utility with charm makes things more even.

Uh...no.

And this change just basically made sorcs completely useless on trips throughout the mud.

You don't need a sorc to go to ToM/Radi Kenga's/Etc. You need the GM barb they can bring with.

RP with a GM Barb PC instead..

except now no one will play barbs because leveling a distant-Cha char is stupid.

In addition to charm person, sorcerers also have summon. These two spells can work together like peanut butter and chocolate. Yes, there is some inconvenience, but you should still be able to get your charmies to most places that aren't actually in the air.

I've never been able to successfully summon a charmed NPC. Correct me if I am mistaken, but I actually think it is impossible. Are you thinking of adjusting this as well? If so, would it break the spell if the sorceror left the room to circumvent the flight-only area?

Except for the fact that most NPCs run off after being summoned so that makes a whole lot of sense! :o

Now let's add to this the fact that many places that are beyond where a charm would be broken are no-summon.

Clearly, this is a well-conceived idea.
