That last line is exactly why this whole thing makes my gut twist. I never, ever thought I'd be posting something along these lines with such a sour taste in my mouth but the extent to which this has been blown just makes it really hard to stomach.

If you took that how I intended it to be taken, I don't know why it would leave a sour taste. Obviously, I don't expect you to be happy that MrP has been banned from the game. But I believe I have been scrupulously fair about the entire episode, including the fact that both people involved received exactly the same punishment.

If you think this thread is blowing things out of proportion, I would be more than happy to lock it for you. I don't think anything new has been said in quite some time.

The question is not whether a punishment should be handed out. But a permanent ban?

Crap, I remember my brother and I rolling characters and leveling them for the sole purpose of learning some spells that were accidentally added to the NPCs in the new Taslamaran palace when it first came out. I didn't do it to hurt the game, I did it out of curiosity, plain and simple: I was really interested in seeing what 'create object' did, and just how much mana it cost to cast 'remove paralysis.' The bug had already been reported, and I knew it would be fixed and the spells removed from my characters, but I was just curious. Even had the characters been deleted (which they weren't), I would have been sad, but understood completely. Had my other characters been deleted, or had I been even temporarily banned from the game I probably never would have come back, on account of the fact that I wasn't doing it to adversely affect -anyone,- just out of curiosity.

My point is, while I understand that just deleting the characters may not have seemed like enough punishment, a permanent ban is extremely over the top and hurtful to the image of the administration of the game: They weren't hurting the game for anyone else, just curious.

But I have to get this out before it's locked so I'll stop there.

Before it gets locked, I would like to say one thing.

I don't know if that was directed at me, but I haven't seen anyone demonizing MrP in particular. Most everyone has expressed friendliness or a degree of mild to no interest in that particular person. But all of these people, regardless of why they did it deserved to be punished. It is a little sad if he was only messing around but frankly it was just a silly thing to do. I mean, he could have forewarned the staff but he probably didn't because he knew they would say no. So it really is not their fault. Because you can't say 'heads up I'm gonna cheat, don't punish me too hard'

Also, is the ban really permanent? I don't recall seeing that word anywhere but here. I was under the impression that these people could eventually prove they want to play fairly.
