In all honesty I think that only my characters should ever be able to train final strike.

No one suggested this at all, or anything close to this.

My suggestion was to make it IMPOSSIBLE to delete directly after FSing.

Now, to do FS as you're suggesting, you have to shorten the casting time dramatically.

I am 100% positive that no-one would like FS removed if it did the damage it does, caused the drawbacks to the caster that it does, but NOT destroy everyone's loot. This playerbase has become so loot-oriented, that this is what really hurts them, I think. So, perhaps this could be a decent solution to make all happy regarding the "final strike issue".

Also, suzie9fingers, atittude like that is what still keeps me away of the game. Some of you have no other way to resolve your personal burdens but through the bitterness in the face of others, I think. When SK is more of a fantasy-set RPG than a little alley of bikering mostly for stupid OOC reasons, I might be back.

Final strike should make loot it destroys unavailable until the next reboot. This idea made no less than 25 hoarders cry upon reading it.

I agree with you completely, even though I was one of the ones who lost stuff to the Faerti strike myself. The game shouldn't be about who has the best/most loot! Get pissed IC, but what do you have to complain about OOC? "oh no! all my pretend stuff is gone because of a pretend spell! Time to go to the forums and demand that spell is removed!"

FS is a great tool, and if you can use it, you should be able to without any remorse OOC.

I was also there when ladyjennbo "RP'd her way out" of death, or at least for the early part of it. It was interesting, and fun. Hell, could have probably avoided all of it in the first place myself, but no regrets.

Suck it up, FS will likely stay and will obviously be used. Don't get too attached to your equipment, or just run away whenever a mage starts casting if you are that concerned. [/rant]...[?]

Sorry, FS is NEVER used properly. I don't even think Caeserea's was used right. Weren't Emet and other lighties on at the time? They COULD have actually you know, went and fought.

The spell needs to [REDACTED] go.

I only suggest this because what do people do immediately after getting resurrected from biting it to final strike? They run and get the loot they lost.

I've never been a fan of any sort of one-shot-kill spells. Anything that can potentially kill you in one shot by design to me seems like a terrible idea for a game that heavily emphasizes tactics. I'd like to think that the life of a character of substantial level -- even one with a bit of an equipment disadvantage -- is worth more than a quick casting of a spell.

That being said, I've never been a fan of Final Strike and I'm still not a fan of it now. It's essentially the above kind of spell, except that it puts a nice burden on someone to try to be impartial in its regulation. How exactly do you determine a somewhat gray-area casting of the spell?

The spell has almost always in every situation been used as a method of griefing people, particularly in the last couple of years. It's also not very difficult to catch someone with it if you've got any sort of a head on your shoulders. Furthermore, a good amount of people who've used it lately have used it and then deleted shortly after. Why is a spell like this necessary?

I agree that the concept of a spell that effectively blows you up to inflict a large amount of damage, but I think that if you want to go that route, you probably want to tone it quite a bit down. I also think that any amount of toning it down for it to be actually balanced would require more time than Dulrik currently has to offer in light of more pressing matters, and that at the end of the day it's just not that fun or often-used of a spell to need to have a presence in the sorcerer's spell list. Also, with or without the spell, sorcerers are fairly well-balanced compared to the rest of the classes in terms of usefulness and power.

Result? I agree that the spell should just be canned. Barring that, if we HAVE to keep it around, I think casting it should cost an entire level of experience, set your skill with the spell immediately back to not learned, send your soul to a no-res, no-raise, no-reincarnate custom FS room in the afterlife where you're only able to talk to people you remember and the Gods (can't otherwise see, hear or talk to anyone or anything) for 2 in-game days (~1 hour of actual logged real time), and then stack about ten spirit disorientation effects on you. I mean, if it's going to let you kill an arbitrarily large amount of gathered people in one shot, it should at the very least penalize you majorly for the potential to do so in one spell.

@Marfik
That doesn't stop the scenory where people are not willing to take the consequence of using the spell, and decides to delete.
It really doesn't take that long to reach a level where you can learn it more or less effectively - with the INT a sorc runs around with.
A fix could be to raise the cost of XP to an obscene amount, or maybe removing advanced training of it.. atleast for a starter.

Though all in all - I stick to my vote and say REMOVE IT! :D

How exactly do you punish a character who Final Strikes and then deletes?
