Considering the fact that griffons have been in supposedly questionable cabals and faiths before, this is a ridiculous move on Marfik's part. There was a scrupulous griffon inducted into Death by Elspeth when there were *gasp* necromancers and deep elves in the faith. There was at least two lighties to my knowledge who 'broke' rp by being in grey cabals/faiths/tribunals. (Shinrein was a sashie lightie in the Harlies for one prime example) There have also been lightie rogues in the Peace Keepers..so really...an arguement about someone not being able to keep alignment in a GREY AURA FAITH when they are SCRUPULOUS isn't a [REDACTED] issue. It's a hissy fit by someone who's never around anymore anyway. It's not like she's abusing it by trying to avoid holy word.

I really don't see what the f'ing problem is with this griffon in the Marfikian faith. Not every follower of Marfik should be the drooling [REDACTED] that seem to plague that faith. Seems like that's what the IMM in charge wants though, and he should really take a step back and realize that there are precedents for this and he needs to remove his head from the sand.

lol another example of cross faith mixing was my halfling priest of death DIABOLIC got inducted at the SAME TIME as a griffon priest of death PRINCIPLED.. who BOTH became F3 around the same time... lol at Marfik, btw i dont rag on imms either but I am very very shocked at this oocly. ICLy i have yet to be informed..

Precisely what I'm trying to avoid.

As for the griffon in question: you can't select Scrupulous as your alignment then play an Anarchist character. There were just a lot of things about that character that clearly broke alignment in a myriad of ways. The alternative was penalizing her just about every time she did so. I'm sure everyone would've been much more happy then.

tl;dr: She'd be a great character if she'd actually be playing to her stated character alignment. For all the vocal people that are annoyed here in public on the forums there's about the same amount of people that send tells or prays in game that find it absurd and ludicrous. You can't please everyone.

This leaves it open for them to work with the occasional dark aura, or grey if it is to help their own cause.

You'll agree that there's a huge difference between working with the occasional one, and essentially being too close for comfort.

P.P.S. My first real character was a griffon Sadalite who became HF. With deep-elves in the faith. Made for some rich interactions. (And frustrations, but who wants to take the easy way?)

This is fine. What was going on here... quite less fine. I was a huge fan of Adara, FWIW.

OOC, WTF? The person was just following the rules. They did nothing wrong, so why are they being punished IC for what appears to be a total OOC flip of the RP of Marfik? Why not handle this transition of allowing only greybies in, in a better matter then just uninvesting those that are not?

Pretty sure we don't take Principled characters in Marfik. :P

ummmm why would the helpfile be writtin that way.. im certain that a principled char would be FAR less welcome to the faith!!! I would like to state that there has been to much inter-race getting along lately that should not be happening, BUT if you are a creature, you GIVE yourself to one thing and it happens to be something that has you opposite in it and what not have as well what can that character do, there will be some interacting, I certainly had a couple of lighty friends on my last darky.. i could see a scrupulous griffon marfikian getting along with just about anyone that seemed to gleam chaos(even if they WERE my opposite in some way)

Hrm. I think this is very simple.

What it sounds like by the characters description as anarchist, is that more often than not there was no meaning behind the characters actions.

Compare and contrast.

Scrup Marfikian in the Harlequins to bring about the downfall of the city state system for the betterment of all the downtrodden, and a fatal blow to Order's hold on Pyrathia.

Scrup Marfikian in the Harlequins to have fun and bring chaos to the lives of those around her.

Could these be very similar characters? Yes. However, one is playing a Scrup alignment, and one is playing an Anarchist alignment. It's all in the reasoning behind the actions that determine what alignment you are.

This whole thread aside, I never quite understood why griffons can only be lighties. I personally don't view their RP background as being sufficient grounds to base and restrict their morality on.

*shrugs*

I do see Marfik's point in this situation, but it would be helpful to change the helpfile accordingly. A new player (no idea if Halela counts as one) would have been very confused.

I just had to look up two abbreviations in Marfik's response. :P

Appreciate your taking the time to respond as you have, and explaining what happened in a temperate way.

I know nothing about Halela's player, newbie, vet, what-have-you. But if I were considering, from help files, a general path for a new character, or even a character in play that had been receiving influences from that faith . . . her character fits. Would it not be possible to shepherd rather than cull, to guide rather than gank? Was the option offered, if she is playing so far off-kilter in her attempts at scrupulousness?

I agree, actually. I'm all for opening some alignments to races (ie. gray alignments to griffons, dogmatic for elves, anarchist for deep-elves), but alas, you should play the alignment you've chosen. I'll take your and others' recommendation on the help file, since I don't think it's clear enough given that people may look there first before clearly looking at the alignment ones.

I think the problem was that there were no real attempts at scrupulousness. It's interesting: there's nothing that specifically states that she can't come back to Marfik, as scrupulous characters do have a place in the faith. Maybe not right now through the conventional methods of priesthood, but no one's specifically saying you have to go through a priest anyways (it is a religion of Chaos, having to make people go through the same things as everyone else would be ... well).

But she'll need to do it as a scrupulous character. It's possible but there are differences, as Sklz was kind enough to put into the words I could not.

You have an entire thread of people who think Halela played "scrupulous" just fine. You're wrong, Marfik. And this was a cheap, horrible thing to do to a player.

Personally from all my interactions she played an anarchist character, she called herself anarchistic avian, drank constantly, then wanted to fight. She did nothing in particular that struck me as the actions of a scrupulous character at least from all my interactions with the character.
