Microsoft in their usual bizarre wisdom decided that having a basic Telnet client bundled in Windows Vista would not be useful, despite having it in nearly all the other versions of Windows. The application still exists in the installer files, it's just not unpacked by default.

To install it, click Start / Run (or use the Windows+R shortcut) and type in the following:
Code:
start /w pkgmgr /iu:"TelnetClient"

There will probably be a few dialogs to go through, but you should end up with ability to prove basic connectivity to the game, by typing Start / Run and then the following:
Code:
cmd /c "telnet mud.shatteredkingdoms.org 1996"

Now hurry up and upgrade to Windows 8. :)

You can also find the telnet client in the control panel.

Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off -> Telnet Client.

But Vista's been out for a while now...

I jump between work/school/work2/home a lot. AT home I don't use it, but elsewhere I do.

On Macs, telnet's background is white. REALLY hard to use.

If i want to play on my iphone I have to connect through a telnet client. Though I much prefer a client like Zmud where there is color rather than the basic green on black. I feel like I'm back on a 386 using telnet.

Even on mac, you can change the background color of the telnet window. I always go black/green.

Yeah - was thinking IE8 there for a sec. But give it a month or two and I'm sure they'll be promising Win8 will fix all your Win7 woes. :)
