How to entice people to leadership:

Make Oathbreaker not count when ex-leaders want to join the Harlequins. That way when we break down, we have our 'home.' To be sure, any one of us not out of our minds at some point....

Just a thought....

Achernar has indeed been pushing for a more automated system and so I'll be adding one eventually. But it's hard for me to get motivated about implementing a system that I guarantee some players will complain and moan about for years afterward. Why? Because the players who know how to work the process as it stands right now have a lot to lose from a fairer system.

But the complaints will masquerade themselves in claims of a loss of RP. Because they always do. And in this case, the complaint will have more merit than usual. The goal of making leadership selection as quick and fair as possible is mutually exclusive with the sort of bargain, barter and backroom deals for power we often see in the best active groups.

Yeah, I don't think the issue of favoritism in leadership is a very big one. I certainly would not advocate staff/implementors spending time trying to address it with automated selection. I'll take the risk of favoritism over the alternative.

I'll go ahead and pre-log my complaint about the loss of RP that is going to happen if/when the automated system gets implemented. :)

Yeah, no automated selection please. That would be crap.

An automated system does not necessarily mean an automated selection.
Something as simple as an in-game election system could be in the works; you never know.

You're joking, right? There's no possible way you're serious. Since when have players whining and complaining about automated systems ever bothered you, ever?

[REDACTED] 'em. I say make everything on SK automated.

Dulrik's description sounds rather daunting. What does "fairer" mean?

Does a "fairer" system mean one where the current leader has less say about who fills a vacancy? While that has its downsides, that could be an excellent thing. I've had my fill of F3s who argue they're so special they deserve to have the only flag. (Yes, this happens.) Even worse are F3s who insist on total control of their organization even as it goes to pot.

My concern is that "fairer" could mean even less immortal discipline for leaders. Sometimes, there's just no good IC or OOC solution but kicking a bad leader out. That needs to happen more often, not less.

Forsooth, I see the "I GOT LEADERSHIP NOW DEAL WITH ME" stance to be appropriate for the MC. That is, afterall, how Slayne became Emperor.

Dunno about an automated voting system. I forsee "hay, join my cabal and vote4meplzkthnx."
