I think as far as humans go with this idea, if they choose a stat that is not the main of their class they should get one less bonus point to their preferred attribute. Half-elves would be unaffected of course.

Not bad, actually. Although a human priest, for example, with +2 int would still be wholly superior to one with +3 wis.

If it were to go in, I'd actually prefer it in this form.

I've made a note to post this at some time but since it's brought up...

The human race is supposed to be versatile:

Quote:
They have no special talents like the other races, they are far more
versatile. They can learn any profession. Humans also receive a bonus to
their profession's primary attribute.

By letting humans to pick their primary attribute, they actually become the most versatile race.

I am sure we'll see Intelligence based Hellions Priests and Shamans; Strength based priests and swashbucklers or even Dexterity based fighters.

Those following two sentences are WHY they're versatile. It's not that they're versatile AND they get those other things.

The real problem here is that there should be a semicolon after versatile instead of a period.

I agree with Algon. This is a cool idea, and I like the idea of more customization when it comes to making your character, but human is already one of the best races. This is a huge, unneeded buff, and game balance should take priority here. I would rather see buffs to the underpowered races.

Perhaps then make it so if you wish to put your bonus into a different attribute than your main, your main would be docked two (and possibly your CHA docked one)from its max? Since the current human build gets a +3 to their main you would be docked three in order to put two where you want them. The attribute choice would be made before you go through the questions at creation.

No, no. I said your original idea was good. This on the other hand, is bad 8)

It's funny how the twinks required no discussion or explanation of the mechanics of primary stat bonuses and the new combinations this idea would enable - they just went straight to bragging about the new min-max combo.

Those who flamed someone for trying to explain the idea in more detail should slap yourselves. Opening up the deeper content of the game for those who don't know all the mechanics inside out would be helpful and rewarding for those who are interested in trying perhaps their 2nd or 3rd characters here. And such explanations can be done without releasing every number and formula that has been surmised to run the game.

Your little sister wants to play too, y'know.
