You dare not with the guard being so near.

This is the first time I've come across this message.

Is picking locks against the law now?

Some doors are locked for a reason. A nimble, sneaky rogue wouldn't want to get caught breaking and entering where he isn't welcome while at risk of being assaulted.

You sometimes get that message when a guard is in the room, I think it mostly depends on what level you are is when you dont get that message as much, though I am not sure.

That's not the typical level check that you generally get, I don't think... Pretty sure that looks like "A guard is standing too close to the lock."

I'm not asking you to reveal IC info, but that might actually be a room with a specific script against picking that door.

On my rogue when I was lower level I tried picking locks with my pet in the room and it said an uxmaln pack mule is too close to the lock. But when I was higher level, I could pick locks with him in there and it did not do nothing.

And when In nerina's inn when trying to pick the rooms with a guard, I sometimes had to spam it a few times before it would let me pick it.

I only get that message (the first one) when I'm in Nerina. There are weird scripts in Nerina that prevent picking locks and stealing from other players when guards are in the room.

Yeah, I was in the new Zakami Inn, and I've gotten the "The guard's standing too close to the door" message before, but this is the first time I've gotten this message.

My Character is a Grand Master, with lock pick at either very good, or superb, if that helps anybody make sense of this.

Thanks, everyone!

Hopefully it checks for *sentient* NPCs in the room, not just any NPC...

Oh no, your own pet mule can have quite the keen eye and kick hard if it catches you in such abhorrent evil-doings. Picking locks... Tsk, tsk, tsk.
