Tongues is a journeyman level spell? This is really more of a cantrip, and I would think is only really useful to the amateur and novice level characters. Seems kind of silly that it's a higher level spell than acid blast, sleep, or color spray, doesn't it?

It's not the most useful spell, and there's no big reason it couldn't be made available at a lower status. I'll just point out that you do get use out of it at higher levels. Sometimes you want to contact a lowbie via a tell and don't know what language they speak, or sometimes you're talking to someone who is practicing a language they're awful at. Or maybe your character only wants to speak in one language for rp purposes.

Of course it's useful when you have not mastered/learned all languages yet. Dalaran is right, should be lower level, as well as Understand.

I seem to recall someone I asked about this mentioning that before the mentor system, languages -- particularly one Old One -- were not so freely available as they are now, and that mastery in all tongues was considered quite the accomplishment.

It would be interesting if each religion got its own spoken tongue. I mean, each cabal gets its own writing, yes?

Presently, I find the entire linguistic layer as it presently stands a bit of an annoying series of complications, akin to how much of a bother it is to manufacture pearlash in a certain Fortress-based game.

Each religion getting their own spoken tongue? That sounds good! (If there were enough colors, that is...)

I kinda wish Firmyrn was more selective, and less people knew it, but if that were the case, my character probably wouldn't have learned it to begin with.

Firmyrn used to be a LOT harder to achieve than it is now: I still wish it couldn't be taught through mentoring.

But each religion getting its own tongue? Ugh, having eight languages is bad enough. Adding seventeen more would just be ridiculous.
