I have thought about combat between players as it is now. I think the main problem is that things go way too fast. How about that it was slowed to f.x. 1/3 of the speed it is now? (but only when you are in player vs player). It should be fairly easy for Dulrik to code...

Yeahh.... that's not really a good idea, and -definitely- not easy to code. Melee combat was already slowed down a lot with the weapon changes and size changes, and making "pvp" fights last longer would just be nonsensical.

Having the fights fast paced to me is a good thing, it gives alot more room for quick tactics and thinking. If you can't type fast enough, make good use of the aliases, if you can type fast enough make even better use of your aliases.

To slow down PvP, especially by that much, would really make PvP quite boring since you'd be waiting for the game to get through the fight rather then being on your toes the whole time.

I've brought this up myself some time ago, so I am inclined to agree.

someone once told me that every skill and spell you have access to should have a three-or-fewer letter alias if you want to be able to keep up with the pace of things. I mostly do it because I'm lazy.

I haven't gotten into the twitchy side of things, but with all the clients out there supporting macro hotkeys, special alerts, and so forth, there are plenty of options

the two keys to pvp are the same here that I saw in D&D: speed and flexibility. speed through aliases and an ability to quickly understand your situation, and flexibility through the use of consumable, scripted, or otherwise magical items.

in all of the pvp I've seen so far, the winner started off with more consumable items than the loser. there's a story of a drawing of a person who lived on a sheet of paper and encountered a line preventing them from moving forward... and the drawing was completely stunned when the pencil magically shifted through another dimension and completely bypassed the obstacle. when I watch people trying to cast cure critical on themselves, I think of that same story.

I have realized that, when it comes down to it, the people who do more prep work, use more knowledge, and react faster will win, and there are limits to how much I want to invest in all three categories. It doesn't bother me when I lose a fight because I know that it is completely a problem created by my own choices, not by any deficiencies in the code.

of course, I don't play an MR barbarian, so...

Playing an MR barbarian is like buying an N-gage.

hasn't this been posted before (not agreeing or disagreeing in any way)

almost same content too....... feeling a huge deja vu

anyway there are quite a few 'visual aids' we can do with our mud clients, most people after reading html logs seem to have them setup now

stuff like bash, trip, dirt and so on can trigger another prompt with caps or some kind of warning, those help with the big combat spam

and then there's the nospam toggle
