Get RE, MI, or reflex, and you won't think magma is sweet. Or play a class with decent hps, and you won't think magma is sweet.

Yeah, just go get all of these things. And always have RE up and Mirrors, even when your not a warlock or sorceror yourself...

And get 40 reflex, and also 40 willpower to resist charm...Because thats obviously overpowered too. And don't forget fortitude, you don't wanna get blinded or petrified either.

No, I didn’t say you needed all of them. I said you needed one of them.

Many classes have access to either RE or MI, either through staves or scrolls. Every other class has access to RE through potions, if you know a friendly warlock. A majority of classes have enough hp to shrug off magma. If you know you are facing a warlock, then yes, you should be prepared with RE or MI, or just be one of the many classes that don’t have to worry about in the first place.
If you are ambushed by a warlock, you can just dirt kick him. It takes more than one magma to kill even a necro, so you can always escape, also.

I'm not arguing that magma is OP. . .you're the one who thinks it's good. Reflex is one way of neutralizing magma, but it’s probably more effort than it’s worth, I agree.

Yeah, if you don’t want to get blinded or petrified, put some fortitude on your gear . . . what's your point? That preparation is essential in sk in general, and not just for dealing with warlocks?

Warlocks are the worst class in the game. They need to be made less terrible, and call lightning isn't going to pull that off.

Try giving them scrolls so they can participate in Petrification spam and we'll talk.

The way I see it is that warlocks are supposed to be power houses. They're all bout killing people before said people kill them and causing massive destruction, yet the only lightning spells they have are lightning bolt and chain lightning, which chain lightning i hear can be really useful. I think that call lightning is a nice addition as it fits in well with their theme and allows them to gain more use from the control weather spell.

Not only that, I don't see how it could overpower them. Iron guard is useless vs adamantite / mithril weapons. Stoneskin has its limitations as it works vs number of hits instead of damage (correct me if i'm wrong on this) and an elemental can easily be dispelled OR vanishes after a day ic. Warlocks have a lot of vulnerabilities it seems, and the only truly powerful spell i hear about is magma, which seems to be easily countered as people say. How do you counter call lightning? Under the right conditions, i've seen a shaman wreck some people with it. It'd give em a nice alternative to magma I think. How many spells do you see used other than magma anyways? How often do you see locks use chain lightning or lightning bolt or even cone of cold?

We cannot judge a system by how the elite or the clever can navigate it. These people are hardy survivors and are usually capable of rising to the top of any situation; instead, it is more fair that we judge a system by its failures, by who it leaves behind, not who it helps get ahead.

This isn't like chain lightning without range. Firstly, it has range. Secondly it is group effect rather than room effect, far more useful IMO
